With the 1st XI picking up their first win of the season on Monday night, attention now refocuses to our league campaign where we are looking to get a notch in the win column as our 1s travel to North Perrott Cricket Club.

Elsewhere our 2s host Ilton Cricket Club looking to re-find some form in the league after a heavy defeat last week. Our 3s travel to Stoke St Gregory looking to start a platform for the season.

Three wins and back to the club for a crisp refreshment? Sounds like a plan.

First XI player Oscar Coleman is currently captaining the 2nd XI at Taunton Vale today in the Second XI Championship vs Gloucestershire.

Oscar hit a fine 97 from 88 deliveries including ten 4โ€™s and five 6โ€™s.

Heโ€™s also picked up 2 crucial wickets in the Gloucestershire first innings including this fine c&b.

Well done Oscar!

Both our 1st and 2nd XIโ€™s are in Baker Cup action this evening.

Our ones travel to Trull CC in their first game of the Baker Cup
Our twos travel to Staplegrove CC in the Davies Bishop strand of the cup after being knocked out to Ashbrittle in the previous round.

Good luck fellas, all games got underway at 18:15 (sorry for the delay, Admin is dealing with JetLag slightly).

The forecast is looking slightly bleak, but we have our fingers crossed that we are able to get some play in for todayโ€™s fixtures.

Sad news coming out of the club regarding the passing of former player Mickey Masters.

Please find some words from former teammate and friend Melvyn Gale:

โ€œMickey was cheerful on the field, although kept himself to himself mostly. Opposition always prized his wicket as key to the game, he was respected as such throughout the cricket community. Such a good bowler too that didn't bowl as much as he could've done because he understood that the young players are the future of the club and they deserved a shot at progressing and so often that humility paid off for the side.

I knew that he'd bowl if I asked him to and I knew he'd bowl well. I could trust him to bowl to his field and never criticise any misfield or dropped catch off him or anybody else because he knew they didn't mean to make that error.

A genuine team-man. He won player of the year 6 times in that AX1 side and when he didn't, quite often it was to share it around other key players in the side or he'd have won it more often.

He also won the Players Player of the Year when it was introduced, to reflect his selflessness for the team.

Both mine and Dave's vice captain, who stood in as captain when we weren't available on any given day.

You could rely on him to just be that guy who the team looks up to, to see how to play the game in a way that would promote the club to other clubs and yet be so important to the side where he was needed, especially in a tight game.

He never dwelt on losing but he never lost the faith that we could win either. If we lost, he'd just wait a week until we got to play again.โ€

All of our condolences from Taunton Cricket Club are with Mickeyโ€™s family and friends.
