Taunton Longswords

Fun session led by Theo tonight - going through our plays in slow motion, giving us a chance to stop and think about our options and actions. Finishing with a fun game using some of our members as puppets and choosing their actions for them - a lot of very deep lunging!

It's been a fun week of sword action. Monday night was a well attended cutting session taking advantage of the summer evenings to get out and murder some milk bottles. Then tonight back in the loft working on some fundemental longsword ideas, chaining attacks to different openings, and of course, stabbing each other in the face as Liechtenauer would have wanted.

Great alternate weapons session tonight! Started with one group looking at Roworth and one group dall'agocchie, then all the toys came out for some free play. Sabres, Rapiers, Sidesword, Rotellas, a cape! Even a flail! ( not pictured because I was mostly running away from it )

Great turn out tonight despite the warmth of the loft space! We got through a lot, Including some 3 person drills which were a challenge at first but a lot of fun 😃⚔⚔⚔

Great to have the first members of the current beginners cohort complete the course, a really engaged and Interested group who have been a pleasure to teach!

Had a lot of fun tonight crossing and uncrossing our arms in entertainingly violent ways, krumpin' and zwerchin' like it's 1426!

Lovely evening filled with the sound of clashing swords! A focus on sparring tonight, in the main group and the beginners also gave the opportunity to brush up on our judging skills! Some dodgy calls but all great fun 🙂

Session Cancellation 27th May

Unfortunately, today’s session (27 May) has been cancelled due to the heatwave. The roof space venue becomes extremely hot (close to 40°C), so this decision has been made for everyone’s safety. Next weeks session is planned to go ahead as usual.
