Take part in our closing on the 17th June.
You don’t need expensive equipment or perfect skills to take part, the most powerful entries are the ones that tell a story. Look around you, what represents community in your everyday life? A friendship, a shared space, a moment of support?
We have two competitions taking place:
Community Competition (open to all):
Theme: What will Somerset look like in 100 years’ time?
Share your vision through a photo, poem, story artwork or video.
School and College Competition:
Theme: What does community mean to me?
🏫Primary Schools Age 5- 11: create a piece of artwork in any style that expresses what community means to you.
🏫Secondary Schools Age 11 - 16: write a haiku poem exploring the theme.
🎓College Students Age 16 - 18: submit a photograph that represents your interpretation of community.
There are prizes to be won across all competitions and every entry will be preserved on our Digital Time Capsule. Selected school entries will feature in a special Centenary Calendar.
Capture it and share it with us:

On this day 182 years ago, George Williams, alongside 11 others, founded YMCA in London. Today, YMCA has grown to serve 65 million people across 120 countries.
6 June is a day to celebrate YMCA and all it has achieved, as well as our ongoing commitment to empowering young people and strengthening communities.

💜 Thank You to Our Volunteers 💜
As we celebrate Volunteers' Week, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported YMCA Taunton over the past year.
During 2024/25, 28 volunteers contributed more than 1,200 hours of their time, creating an estimated £15,000 worth of value for our charity and community.
Our volunteers support us in so many ways. They help with deliveries, youth groups, judo coaching, office duties, IT support, photography, DIY projects, cleaning, refreshments, events and governance as Trustees and Board Members.
We are especially proud of our young volunteers, who have helped at holiday activities, youth groups and community events, gaining valuable skills, confidence and experience along the way.
A huge thank you also goes to our corporate volunteers who gave their time to improve our facilities, and to everyone who joined our community Spruce Up Day to paint, clean and garden alongside us.
We'd also like to recognise our staff team, many of whom regularly give up their own time outside of work to support events and activities throughout the year.
Finally, a special thank you to Mike, one of our longest-serving volunteers. Mike has supported YMCA Taunton for many years and is currently taking some well-deserved time away. We are incredibly grateful for his dedication and look forward to seeing him again in the future.
To every volunteer, supporter and member of staff who has gone the extra mile, thank you. You help make YMCA Taunton the welcoming community it is today. 💜
