✨ Stars of the Week ✨

Our Ninjas and Nitros focussed on defending this week, learning all about protecting the lines to goal, block tackles and throwing a jab (tackle that is!)

We were really impressed with both groups this week, with lots deservedly being presented as Stars of the Week!

Match Reports for this Weekend!!!!

Men’s 1s 3-1 Finchfield 2s

Back-to-back wins for the 1s! 🔥
Newport’s Men’s 1s produced a dominant second-half display to beat Finchfield 2s 3-1 at Fortress Lilleshall on Saturday.

The 1s flew out of the blocks, pressing high and causing Finchfield problems from the first whistle. Just five minutes in, Courtney Horner continued his red-hot form, firing across his body into the bottom corner for his third goal in three games.

Finchfield hit back as Newport’s frantic tempo began to affect their passing. A penalty corner found Joseph Rowson, who rounded a defender before flicking home to make it 1-1.

Captain Ash Williams used the half-time break to reset the side, and Newport came out firing. Liam Dix delivered a coming-of-age performance, capping it with his maiden 1st goal, deflecting home from close range after Williams created the opportunity.

Finchfield’s task became even tougher when key man Richard Saunders suffered a nasty head injury after being struck by a miskick and had to leave the field. Everyone at Newport wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back on the pitch soon.

The 1s stayed composed and finished the job professionally. Jack McLaughlin made it 3-1 with another drag flick into the same top corner he found last week, before Newport expertly managed the game through Rob Neal, Matthew Griffiths, Ricky Lally and Dan Wood, with Sam and Ben Crawford, Williams and Horner helping see out the final minutes.

3-1, three points. Back-to-back wins💪

Newport now sit second in Midlands Division 4 West, with the league shaping up to be an incredibly competitive one.

Next up: Redditch away, as the 1s look to make it three wins on the bounce.

An Astro full of stars!

Here are this weeks Stars of the Week from our Ninjas and Nitros training sessions.

A lot of focus was on utilising the space in this weeks sessions + attacking through the channels. This weeks stars demonstrated exceptional listening skills and put their learning into practice, playing some wonderful hockey!

Our goalkeepers continue to impress, making save after save and really taking their coaching on board. Congratulations to Sam - a super first ever GK session, making the switch from outfield!

We go again next week 💪
