UPDATE
Chris Black's funeral will take place on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at 1:30pm at Telford Crematorium.
Following the service, family and friends are warmly invited to Wellington Cricket Club to celebrate Blackie's life, share memories, and raise a glass in his honour.
π€π€ In Memory of Chris Black
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former member, Chris Black, earlier this week.
Chris joined Wellington Cricket Club in the late 1970s after moving to the area from his native North East. A talented seam bowler, he proudly represented the 1st XI for many years.
In the mid-1990s, "Blackie" took on the role of 2nd XI captain and also served as Chairman of the Cricket Committee. He was a highly popular skipper, widely valued by his teammates for his generosity, leadership, and wonderful sense of humour.
Even after hanging up his boots, Blackie remained a familiar and much-loved presence on the sidelines at Orleton Park, proudly supporting his sons, Stewart and Jonathan, throughout their own playing days.
Blackie will be dearly missed by his many friends across the club. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Stewart, Jonathan, and the entire family at this incredibly sad time.
We will be paying our respects to Blackie this Saturday ahead of our home fixtures. We will also share details regarding his funeral arrangements with members as soon as they become available.
