It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Cliff Smithies on Thursday 10th July 2025, age 96. Cliff was our oldest known living member. He began playing for St.Georges in the 1940s. He was an honorary life member and a vice-president of the club for many years. A dedicated club man for decades, he captained the 2nd XI from 1959-1975, was club secretary from 1966-1976 and club chairman from 1979-1984. In addition he was also a stalwart of the hockey club for many years. Cliff was also active in the management of the whole facility at St.Georges and was a trustee of the charity which runs it. Due to increasing physical frailty he has been unable to visit the club for the last couple of years. His mind, however, remained as sharp as ever to the last. Older members of both cricket and hockey clubs will remember him fondly. Funeral details will be posted in due course.
Planned repair work on footpath behind the memorial gates leading up to the bowling green.
Repair work is planned to commence on Tuesday 8th July. It will involve hot retarmacking.
There will also be vehicle movements along the length of the pathway throughout the work.
Burma Road will remain open.

What a day! 🌟
We were proud to host the Sisters n Sport Girls’ Cricket Finals today, welcoming 15 fantastic schools for a full day of cricket action across 4 pitches – all broadcast live on TV! 🏏📺
A huge shoutout to the amazing volunteers from St Georges Cricket Club, Telford and Telford & Wrekin Hockey Club – your support made it all possible. 🙌
It’s days like this that showcase the power of sport to inspire, connect and celebrate young talent! 💪✨
