“I’m far too uncoordinated to do Pilates!”

I hear this one a LOT. And honestly… I get it! 😂

I am extremely clumsy. I can trip over absolutely nothing, walk into furniture that has been in the same place for years and occasionally wonder what my feet are doing!

So if you’re worried you don’t have good coordination… trust me, I understand.

The good news? You don't need to be naturally coordinated to do Pilates.

Pilates actually helps you develop your coordination by teaching your brain and body to work together.

Over time you can learn to:

✨ Coordinate your arms and legs
✨ Improve your balance
✨ Become more aware of how your body moves
✨ Move with greater control
✨ Build confidence in everyday movements

And we don't expect you to get everything right straight away.

We break things down, practise them and gradually build your confidence.

If I can do Pilates… and I’m extremely clumsy… I promise you can too! 😂💛

So don't let “I'm not coordinated enough” stop you.

Come and join us for 4 weeks of Beginners Pilates and learn at your own pace, in a friendly and supportive environment.

“I’m too stiff to do Pilates.”

Actually… that’s one of the reasons you should start. 💛

I know because I was really stiff when I first started Pilates. I couldn’t touch my toes, and getting up and down from the floor wasn’t exactly graceful! 😂

You don’t need to be flexible to start Pilates.

Over time, Pilates teaches you how to move, lengthen and strengthen your body, helping you gradually improve your flexibility and mobility.

And it’s not just about touching your toes…

✨ Learn how to move your spine
✨ Improve your flexibility
✨ Build strength
✨ Improve your balance and coordination
✨ Learn how to get down onto the floor — and back up again — without relying on your hands
✨ Feel more confident in everyday movement

You don't have to arrive at Pilates already flexible, strong or coordinated.

That’s what you’re coming to learn.

So if you've been thinking “I'm too stiff to start”… think again.

Come and join us for 4 weeks of Beginners Pilates and start exactly where you are.

Physical activity is 1.5 times more effective at reducing mild-to-moderate symptoms of depression, psychological stress, and anxiety than medication or cognitive behavior therapy, according to the study’s lead author, Dr. Ben Singh.

Even the NHS now can prescribe exercise for depression, anxiety, and stress, which I think is wonderful.

I used to suffer from depression from many years, and exercise was one of the tools I used to help manage my symptoms. p.s. I also did a lot of therapy. Exercise is still my go to if my mood ebs low.

Have you considered trying Pilates to see what it could do for you? Physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy. managing stress, anxiety or intrusive and racing thoughts – doing something physical releases cortisol which helps us all manage stress.

Forget the past & live for today!

When I read up why people feel embarrassed it comes from a societal feedback, from feeling guilt, shame, self-consciousness, awkwardness, and vulnerability so that we don't make the same kind of mistake again in the future.
Firstly I am so saddened if you have ever had a situation which has made you feel any of things I said above and has left you in a position where you feel embarrassed to come to a class. I also wanted to assure you that the people who come to Thank U Pilates classes are all lovely, friendly people, no one is judgey, no one will make you feel awkward. You are in control and you can decide where you position yourself in the class so you feel the most. comfortable. You can wear whatever you like to feel the most comfortable. Most importantly you will be welcomed with a smile, and introduced to friendly people who want to move and feel good in their bodies.

It can help by starting in a smaller group, and my Beginners Courses are small groups on purpose so that you can be at your most comfortable, and not feel overwhelmed. If you would like more information on this, then drop me a line on click the link below

It is horrible when you get injured.

You should never exercise into pain. It is so important to listen to your body, and to get help when needed. Sometimes all it needs is a little TLC and time. Pushing yourself too soon can make things worse, so it is always best to speak to a doctor or professional before attempting exercise after injury especially if it hasn't cleared up on its own in a reasonable amount of time and has been lingering around.

I was injured in an accident with a car (I was on a bike), and I was in pain I had tried lots and lots of physio but was still in pain but the doctors had given me the all clear to exercise. I was nervous and scared but I am so glad I gave Pilates a shot. It changed my life, and the pain I had from the accident went away and I never looked back.

I have had people come to me, with dodgy knees, backs, frozen shoulder, and generally feeling a little achy all over. As they say motion is the lotion, and as long as it's ok with your doctor then you should get moving.

I want to do a Punch and Judy
OH NO IT ISN'T!

Do not get me wrong, some Pilates exercises are difficult and hard. If I was to say otherwise, you could say to me NA NA NA NA YOUR PANTS ARE ON FIRE. However, I was taught at a lovely Pilates school where you are taught all these lovely modifications, and levels to the exercises. The exercises are taught in delicious layers, and you are the navigator of your ship. You decide what level you want to go to, and you decided if you want to stay there.

You can go to a level for a couple of reps and drop back to the previous level. You can do a hard level one week and pick an easier one the next week. Trust me I do it myself.

Pilates is achievable by all. We all start somewhere. The important thing, is to be kind to ourselves, and our bodies, and listen to ourselves, and learn something new about our bodies and what it can do each week.

If you want to start off nice and gently with like-minded people who will be learning the basics and fundamentals of Pilates then a Beginners Course might be just what you need. I have one coming up soon, if you would like more information then please drop me a line or click on the link below

I hear you!

Whenever you think about doing exercise you have zero motivation to do it. You would prefer to curl up in bed and just watch a TV series . I get it, I have been there.

First things first, is there a medical issue, speak with your doctor. I used to be like this, and there was nothing wrong with me medically, I just hadn't set myself up for success.

You have to pick the right time of day to exercise. I am a morning person, so trying to work out at the end of a longs day work is not the best place for me. For others it is the wonderful sweet spot that works perfectly in their lives.

I have to have someone to push me to do it, unfortunately it is very rare that I can "motivate" myself to exercise, unless I have paid money to do it and I feel that I am losing money if I don't.
What I didn't realise is that once you start exercising, its gives you energy, it pumps adrenaline around the body and makes you feel alive. Your body remembers this, and it wants to do it again. People who regularly dealt with fatigue who increased their energy levels by 20% found they decreased their fatigue by 65 % after starting a program of regular low-intensity exercise.

It's always best to start gently, and a Beginners Course is always a good way to go. Start slow with achievable exercises. Booking on the course means committing to 4 weeks, where there will be someone who can help you and encourage you. It also means that if you don't turn up that you will lose that money and those people at Harvard have done studies that have shown that this means you are more likely to turn up and consume what you have paid for.

The most important thing to note though is, doing nothing will not change a thing. Try Pilates and see if it can change your life. It changed mine, and I will never give it up now.

Let's get this straight. You are NEVER TOO OLD for exercise!

Everyone has a start point and even if you have done nothing in the last twenty years, you can get moving again, but start slow, and gentle. Of course check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

My grandmother always used to tell me "If I sit down I will die" and this has stuck with me. I am going to try and keep mobile for as long as possible, just like she did! My gran was ace!

Exercise helps you to feel young, move better, breath better, and get more out of life. It gives off these lovely natural drugs called endorphins so you are rewarded with a positive feeling in your body.

Sometimes if you have not exercised in a while, starting out in a pre-existing class can be daunting. It can make you concerned that you will be lost and you won't be able to keep up. This is where a Beginners Course can come in handy. It allows you to learn at a nice slow pace. To ask lots of questions, and be with other people in the same position as you. Most people find that they are more mobile than they thought, they are more flexible than they thought, and impress themself.
