Memorial match played for murdered newlyweds An inaugural cricket match was played at the weekend in memory of a newlywed couple killed by terrorists.

Wow, what an afternoon. Despite all that the English summer weather could throw at us, we came together as a Club and community, and with the Barlow family, to remember our friends Dave and Celia, unveil the memorial benches and play some cricket in the inaugural Barlow Memorial Cup.

Congratulations to East Woodhay for winning the cup in 2024 in a closely fought match, and we look forward to competing for it each year on the first Sunday in July.

Thanks are owed to many people in the Club, Parish Council and community for making the day possible (apologies if anyone has been overlooked): organising and erecting the benches, buying ribbon, giving speeches, arranging the match, buying and engraving the cup, selecting and captaining the team, buying the shirts, preparing the ground, making and serving the teas, flipping and serving burgers, playing, umpiring, scoring, and the people who lent and erected gazebos in a downpour.

The last game of the season for the Wednesday team is at the Dean Meadow this evening. Let’s hope rain doesn’t stop play!

Just two weeks to go until the community commemorates our friends David and Celia with the unveiling of the memorial benches at the Dean Meadow, and HNCC competes for The Barlow Memorial Cup.

Dear all,

The first Sunday in July, the 7th to be precise, sees us celebrate and remember our mate, and club Chairman, Dave Barlow, and his amazing wife Celia who were taken from us last year whilst they were overseas.

The Barlow Memorial Cup will be an annual fixture where we go up against East Woodhay in a 40 over match.

This is the inaugural Barlow Memorial Cup match, and the time has come to select the best XI.

Please, if you’re keen to play give this message a 👍🏻 so I can see those who are keen to been considered for selection.

We are expecting to have high demand for this game so everyone will be considered, and if not selected we would love to see you all at the game, to remember and celebrate Dave and Celia ❤️
