WHAT A RESULT! 🦅
In only their second-ever 11v11 game, Thirsk Falcons Ladies caused a huge upset as they travelled to Tibs in the North Riding County Cup!
Coming into the game, Falcons knew it was going to be a tough fixture. Tibs settled quickly and applied pressure from the off, moving the ball well, but the ladies soon got to grips with the pace of the game.
Falcons took the lead in the 15th minute when a bouncing ball found its way between the Tibs defenders and through to Dawn, who made no mistake and scored for the second week in a row!
That gave the ladies plenty of belief and just five minutes later they had a second. A corner from Dawn caused chaos inside the Tibs box and, after a bit of pinball, Lou managed to poke the ball home to put Falcons 2-0 up.
The ladies almost added a third from another corner, but the effort came back off the crossbar and nobody in claret and blue could turn home the rebound.
Tibs remained a threat, but Ava stood firm in goal and produced some outstanding saves when called upon. Just before half-time, Tibs did manage to pull one back from a corner. The ball was sent back towards goal, took an awkward bounce just out of Ava and Carla’s reach and ended up in the net.

The second half saw Tibs change shape to a 3-4-3 as they looked to pile on the pressure and throw everything at Falcons.
The defence were outstanding. On the few occasions Tibs managed to get in behind, they still couldn’t find a way past Ava. For such a young goalkeeper, she was completely unfazed — brave at the feet of the strikers, making a couple of huge one-on-one saves and doing everything she could to keep the ball out of the net.
Falcons dug in, worked for each other and saw the game out to secure a brilliant 2-1 victory and a place in the next round of the North Riding County Cup!
🏆 Coaches’ & Opposition Player of the Match — Ava
Just 16 years old and absolutely fearless throughout! Ava was brave when called upon, made some massive saves and showed maturity well beyond her years. For the second week running, she produced an outstanding performance and the whole team are incredibly proud of her!
🏆 Players’ Player of the Match — Olivia
What a debut! Olivia was outstanding from start to finish. She made the right decisions time and time again, we don’t think she lost a single battle all game and she was an absolute rock. Some way to introduce yourself to the team!
The atmosphere at the final whistle, back at the pub afterwards, the food, the laughs and, most importantly, the team spirit — that’s what it’s all about.
The pride we have in this group is unbelievable. So many of these ladies have stepped up from our Rec team to take on the challenge of 11v11 football, and in just two games they’ve already shown what they’re capable of.
They stick together, battle for each other and, most importantly, enjoy doing it together.
