🏑Thornbury produced an outstanding second-half display to secure a convincing 7-1 victory over Gwent after a closely contested opening period.
The first half was a tactical battle, with both sides well matched and chances at a premium. Gwent took the lead through a superb strike from just inside the D, leaving little chance for the goalkeeper. Thornbury responded in the final play of the half, converting a well-worked short corner to make it 1-1 at the break, a fair reflection of an evenly fought opening 35 minutes.
The interval provided an opportunity to make a small tactical adjustment, with a tweak to Thornbury's forward press when out of possession. The impact was immediate. What followed was some of the best flowing hockey seen this side of the Severn, as Thornbury took complete control of the game. Quick passing, relentless pressing and clinical finishing saw the visitors pull away in style, adding six unanswered goals in a dominant second-half performance.
🏆 Man of the Match goes to Pete, whose outstanding work rate and control of the centre midfield were fundamental to the team’s victory.
