We don’t just teach steps. We build creators. 🧠✨

A little look behind the scenes of my choreography and repertoire class over at 7B Performing Arts. We took inspiration from Matthew Bourne’s iconic choreographic concepts, put a fresh spin on it, and used our Zodiac signs to create original, custom motifs. Watch how these talented dancers took their individual solos and seamlessly blended those motifs together into a stunning duet. This level of artistry, deep-dive focus, and creative thinking is what it’s all about. Whether I’m teaching a full room here or heading into my high-focus 1-1 private sessions tonight—we train dancers to think, not just follow.Huge shoutout to the dancers for absolute commitment to the process! 🤍

Last night, it happened. 🩰🤍

After everything I shared in my last post about how scary, exciting and vulnerable it feels to start a dance school from scratch… we finally started back.

And there were 3 little ballerinas in my class. 🥹

Three.

It might not sound like a huge number, but to me it felt MASSIVE.

Three little girls who walked through that door, trusted me with their first steps in dance, and filled my little studio with giggles, music and ballet shoes.

This is how a dance school starts.

Not with hundreds of students.
Not with a packed timetable.
But with one class, one little dancer at a time. 🤍

So last night I went home feeling incredibly proud. Proud that I actually did it. Proud that I kept going when it felt scary. And so excited to see where these little beginnings take us.

Here’s to the first 3… and hopefully many more little ballerinas joining us along the way. 🩰✨

Following up on my stories yesterday… I promise I’d keep it 100% raw and real with you all here.
Social media loves to show the glamorous side, the packed masterclasses, the perfect uniform drops, and the big studio reveals. But behind the scenes?

It looks like standing in a beautiful, empty studio, in your own merch praying people will turn up.
It looks like running classes where the attendance is literally just my daughter, me and one other person.
It looks like putting your heart into designing adverts, planning summer workshops, and getting met with zero interest.
It looks like fighting an uphill battle to get a new brand off the ground when things aren’t taking off yet.
And yes- it looks like me crying behind the scenes from pure exhaustion wondering if I’ve made a huge mistake.

The imposter syndrome is real. The growing pains are SO real.

But I’m sharing this because I never want to pretend that growth is effortless. Building a safe, inspiring place for our dancers takes literal sweat and tears. Every bump in the road, every quiet class, and every slow start is just part of the choreography of building something that lasts.
To the few students who do show up right now, to the parents, and everyone who sent me love yesterday- thank you. You are the reason I keep going 🤍

✨ A NEW CHAPTER FOR ACSD ✨

After what feels like a LOT of behind-the-scenes juggling… we have a new home! 🥹🩰💗

From September, Abby Cunningham School of Dance will be at Blackpool Theatre Collective — somewhere already very close to my heart, and somewhere I’m SO excited for us to grow. 🌸

Our new timetable starts week commencing 7th September 2026, with classes for our tiniest dancers right through to adults, plus Acro with the wonderful Miss Ashley! 🤸🏼‍♀️

This move feels like such an exciting fresh start for the school. A chance to keep building something that’s focused on confidence, creativity, strong technique and making every dancer feel like they matter.

Existing families — keep an eye on the group as I’ll be getting everyone organised for the new term! 💌

New dancers are very welcome too — message me for more information or to register your interest. 🩰

✨ I thought I’d reintroduce myself on here. HEY, I’m Abby…

I’m the co-founder of AXIS, alongside Hannah, and the owner of Abby Cunningham School of Dance.

Dance has shaped my life for as long as I can remember. From training professionally and performing, to teaching, choreographing and now working as an Associate Artist with the Royal Ballet & Opera, my passion has always been helping dancers grow with confidence, curiosity and strong technical foundations.

AXIS was created because we wanted to offer something a little different. A space where dancers can explore artistry alongside technique, challenge themselves, ask questions, make mistakes and leave feeling inspired.

I can’t wait to welcome you to our first workshops and share everything we’ve been working on. 🤍

Meet Hannah. 🤍

I’m so excited to finally introduce the other half of AXIS.

Hannah brings over 10 years of professional experience as a performer, choreographer and educator, having worked across the UK and internationally. Her career has seen her perform for cruise lines, theatre productions, live entertainment and corporate events, while also choreographing for theatre, competitions and community projects.

Alongside her performance career, Hannah is a Royal Ballet Chance to Dance Associate Artist and has delivered workshops for organisations including The Lowry CAT and Blue Moose Dance Company. She teaches across a wide range of styles, combining strong technical training with creativity, confidence and a genuine love for helping dancers grow.

What I love most about working with Hannah is that we share the same vision. We believe in building thoughtful, curious and versatile dancers through high-quality training in an environment where every young person feels supported to explore, question and develop their artistry.

I genuinely can’t wait for you all to experience what we’ve been creating together. This is only the beginning. ✨
