Another Centenary event today at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel, this time for the seniors. A 3 team open event which saw many visiting clubs travel to participate.
There were prizes for visitors and members. Chris Olley, Graham Spillet and Mark Dodd took the main prize for the visitors with 80 points. That came with a big help from Chris Olley who managed an ace on the Par 3 10th! There was no debating who won nearest the pinπŸŒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈβ›³πŸŽ―
The top score for the members and overall however, was from current captain Jon Fison, and two former captains Ian Laird and Chris Tilbrook. They came in with a whopping 87 points!
A superb day had by all of the 54 that played. Hope to see you again next year β›³β˜€οΈπŸ†

Another event at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel today. This time it was the Thorpeness Ladies Scratch Open event.
Tough and firm conditions at the moment, but plenty of birdies out there today which demonstrated the golfing ability of the competitors.
The winner however was Tessa Summers from Aldeburgh Golf Club, who pipped fellow Aldeburgh member Sophie Warner to the title. Tessa made 3 birdies to score an impressive 81. Congratulations Tessa and extremely well played! πŸ†β›³β˜€οΈπŸŒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Today was the return of our S.A.M. Foundation Golf day at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel. A day in honour of Sam May, who last year at the age of 27 was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Amongst the shocking and devastating news however, Sam decided to look to bring some positivity and decided to start a charity foundation plus host an event to raise money. We sadly lost Sam earlier this year, but his day will forever live on.
Today was also the day where a new shelter in Sam's memory was opened. Money raised from a 3 peak challenge helped fund the project and was built by close friends and family over the last couple months. Donations can still be made via the crowdfunder page if you wish to: Three Peaks for Sam -https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/qr/qleJK6OW?utm_campaign=sharemodal&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=shortlink.
21 teams supported the event this year to help raise funds for the S.A.M Foundation, plus compete for the new trophy. As well as the team competition there were nearest the pins, longest drives and a chance to win a car sponsored by Hammond MG with a hole in one on the 7th. Many came close but no takers.
The best 2 of 4 format competition was a close fought battle with the top two teams tied on count back, but with a better back 9 the team victorious were Chris Williams, Robert Tucker, Robert Bacon and Clint Lakey with 89 points. Must have been the team shirts!!
A glorious and emotional day, but thank you to all that supported the event. Hopefully see you next year β›³πŸ†β˜€οΈ

Another summer at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel means the return of the Centenary events.
Today was the James Braid Centenary Cup which is a competition open to other clubs, that like Thorpeness, are of James Braid design.
26 teams entered the 4BBB format competition and considering the tough firm conditions, saw some impressive scoring. 11 teams scored 40 points or more.
For the first time the event was one by a ladies team. Current ladies Thorpeness captain, Veronica Middlehurst, and her partner Sheila Sheldrake took the title with 45 points, pipping Kevin Cooke and John Shapland from Thetford by a point.
Thank you to all that supported the event. Well played Veronica and Sheila β›³β˜€οΈπŸ†

It's now less than 2 weeks until the S.A.M. Foundation Golf Day at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel, but just last week family, friends and members embarked on the 3 Peak Challenge to help raise funds for the foundation but also a memorial for Sam.
They successfully completed the challenge in under the 24 hour target time.

Today at Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel was the annual Captain's Charity Day. 76 in total turned out for the event which turned out to be a scorcher. There was plenty on offer for those partaking. A chance to gain bragging rights off our Pro Harry Mills via the Beat the Pro Challenge, plus a chance to win a car supplied by Hammond MG with a hole in one on the second, which included more monetary prizes for an ace on the other Par 3s. Sadly no one claimed any prizes.
The day was also a team of 4 event, which was won by Bryan and Pearl Powell, plus next year's Captains Paul and Caroline Fields. They stomped home to victory with a 6 points winning margin. Well played!
Today however of course was about raising money for the Captain's charities which are the SAM Foundation and Riding for the Disabled. Figures are yet to be finalised but initial calculations suggest it will be more than Β£3000 raised.
Well done Jon and Veronica and thank you to all that played and supported the event β˜€οΈπŸŒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
