the below is similar to some start of class prep that we do ✋🏼🤚🏼
in class we weight bear a fair amount on our hands (in turn affecting the kinetic chain of the wrist, elbows, shoulders…) which is not something the upper body was predominately made to do (upper body think mobility, lower body think stability).
so it’s really important that before we ask these joints to bear weight, we prep them to be able to do so - regularly.
this might seem boring and unnecessary, but it is oh-so-satisfying and sexy IMO 🔥

where are you LEAST mobile?
C1-C7 = cervical (neck)
T1-T12 = thoracic (upper/middle back)
L1-L5 = lumbar (lower back)
The regulars that come to class will know exactly what we’re talking about here. Each section of the spine has varying amounts of mobility, the cervical and lumbar more so than the thoracic. We can even go a step further and attempt to pin point individual vertebrae (i.e T12).
This takes huge amounts of concentration. The mobility we’re looking to find here is so minimal you will most likely barely feel or think that anything is actually happening. Stick with it though. It’s all about that mind/body connection. Visualise your spine just like the image below. Visualise, concentrate and connect as best you can.
A healthy spine is a spine that is both mobile and stable at any given time, depending on which is being called upon. Don’t take for granted the ability to move your spine freely, as well as being able to call upon it for stability with the help of 360° support.

Yoga Nidra 🙌🏼
all of the spirals and twists were much needed tonight, the thoracic spine (particularly that hard to reach spot right in between the shoulder blades) feels brand new 👌🏼
