All at the Angel would like to wish David Young all the best for the final stages of the EIBA summer singles at Melton tomorrow 20th September.

Play starts at 9.30am where he will play Dominic McVittie from Spalding. A tough draw but you can do it David 💪.

The semi final is scheduled for 12:30 with the final at 3.30pm

We will keep an eye on proceedings and provide updates tomorrow.

Update from the Bowls Committee

Competitions Update

Last weekend saw the culmination of the Club’s Summer competitions.

Well done to all the finalists and thank you to Luke for overseeing the weekend’s events and Elise, Anthea, Diana, and Maureen for arranging the excellent lunch buffet.
Looking ahead, the September Triples competition starts this coming Monday, up to Friday 25 September. For those players involved, please check with your Team captain, the Club notice board and WhatsApp / Facebook for key updates.

Going forward, please be advised of a slight change to the running of Club Competitions. Luke Cheetham will remain in post as Competition Secretary but will now lead an expanded team (Gary McIlravey, Nick London, Elise Goldstone, and John Williams) to ensure he has the appropriate level of support. This is an important development given how the role has developed.

Winter Leagues / Competitions

Entry forms for the 2026 / 2027 winter leagues / competitions are now available at the Club, the deadline for all entries is 10pm, Tuesday 22nd September.

Please make sure your entry is in the box at the Club as entries won’t be accepted after this point.

The above date is the result of increasing entries in internal competitions as well as those entering counties / nationals. This has created a need to start the competitions relatively early to give players time to schedule their respective games. Time also has to be factored in to operate the competitions behind the scenes. Any player who is not able to make it to the Club by the 22nd should contact a member of the Competition team as soon as possible.

Availability for Finals

Looking ahead to the Winter season, members must check their availability for Finals weekend, Saturday 10 April – Sunday 11 April (Friday 9 April reserved if required). If members know they are not available on any of the dates, we ask you not submit an entry form.

Should your availability change after submitting your entry form, the default position should be to withdraw from any singles competition and seek a substitute for a team game. Substitutes have been used previously and every effort should be made to find one in the event of a player within a team being unavailable.


If the situation is the result of a personal / family emergency (e.g. illness), please contact the Competition Team who will review the situation and their decision will be final.


We raise these points to ensure a fair approach for all competitors and to avoid any repeat of last weekend where the 100-Up Pairs final was not played where one of the teams withdrawing due to not being available on the sessions offered.

The Bowls Committee is satisfied that attempts were made to equally accommodate all players where scheduling issues arose however it is unfortunate when any competition does not conclude with the final being played as it then impacts on the integrity of the competition and those players who played in the earlier rounds, inc. the losing semi-finalists.
