Officially Devon's worst cricket club We're a team of friends, colleagues and family loosely based around the Cavendish Hotel in Torquay.

We don't have a huge amount of success on the pitch, losing heavily almost every time we play, but we thoroughly enjoy ourselves off it and do a great tea to boot.

🏏 Cavendish Cavillers – Season Finale 2025 🏏

The Cavs wrapped up an amazing 2025 season with an away fixture at Tipton St John.

A huge thank you to Cavs Chair Willsie for pulling this game together at such late notice – and what a bonus to have glorious late September sunshine!

Skippered by 2024 Cavs Player of the Year, Dave E, the Cavs chose to field first. Moggy and Tobes opened the bowling with Moggy striking early for a fine wicket. Chip and Dave E continued the pressure, while Flo R and Tom H bowled with great line and length. Sir Gareth produced a moment of magic behind the stumps for the second wicket, with Joules returning to bowling and bagging the third. Biv and Si bowled well and were unlucky not to claim a scalp. Despite the efforts, Tipton St John posted a strong 225+.

With the bat, Sir Gareth led the way with a classy 38, skipper Dave E added 25, while young Tom H and Flo R kept the scoreboard moving and pushed the Cavs past the 100 mark. Joules made a welcome return from retirement to finish off the innings alongside Chip, with Chris W kindly stepping in as runner.

The day was rounded off with beers, sandwiches, and post-match photos – the perfect way to end the Cavs’ 2025 season. Once again, cricket was the winner. 🏏🍻

🏏 Match Report – Cavendish Cavillers CC at Stoke Fleming, Devon

The Cavendish Cavillers made the long journey to the stunning coastal ground of Stoke Fleming, with breathtaking views over Blackpool Sands. Skipper for the day Dave E called correctly at the toss and put the hosts in to bat.

Back from injury, Cavs legend Moggy opened the bowling downhill with trademark accuracy. Chris, charging uphill, struck early twice β€” aided by a sharp catch from Scott M and a neat grab from Chip.

Chip then joined the wickets column himself, claiming a superb scalp before later benefiting from a fantastic catch by Dave E. Flo R, continuing her rich vein of form, took two excellent wickets, while young Toby W impressed with his controlled leg-spin, keeping the run rate in check.

A welcome return to the Cavs saw Issac McC steaming in downhill, fast and accurate, and unlucky not to bag three wickets. Making her debut, Jill C bowled with heart and was unlucky not to break through. The day, however, belonged to Rowan β€” named both fielder and bowler of the day after an outstanding performance, taking three wickets and excelling in the field.

Stoke Fleming closed on 231.

In reply, opener Jools set the tone with a stylish 34, with Biv β€” who clearly enjoys batting at this ground β€” adding 25. Further contributions from Issac McC and Dave E kept the Cavs in the hunt, but they finished 95 runs short against a disciplined home attack.

After the game, Cavs legend Willsie summed it up perfectly:

β€œWhat a turn out for the Cavs. Rowan β€” what a player. Brilliant to have Jill playing and we can’t wait to welcome Byron into the Cavs in the future. Cricket was the winner.”

🏏 Match Report: Cavendish Cavillers vs Marldon – Vintage Game Special 🏏
30 Over Match

Rain in the air and jumpers on from ball one – but that didn’t stop the Cavendish Cavillers from enjoying a cracking vintage clash against our good friends and local rivals, Marldon.

🎯 Cavs won the toss and elected to bat first. Chris and Tobes W opened up and played some classy shots despite the damp conditions, with Chris top scoring with 19.

Middle order runs came from Nick W, Sanjeewa, Darren W and Chip, all passing 15, as the Cavs scrapped their way to a competitive 141 all out.

🧀 In the field, Andy M, skipper for the day, made an inspired move bringing on Flo R, who struck gold with the wicket of danger man Andy S, thanks to a sharp catch from Bradley W.

Will W took a brilliant wicket of his own, but it was the spinners who really turned up the heat:
β€’ Tobes claimed 2 wickets, including key man Harry R (top scorer in the last thriller).
β€’ Coxy joined the party with 2 more, swinging momentum back the Cavs’ way.

Behind the stumps, Chris W, keeping for the first time, brought energy and voice that lifted the team throughout the innings.

But hats off to young George R of Marldon, who batted with real composure to finish on an unbeaten 51 not out, steering Marldon to victory.

πŸ—£ After the game, both captains and Marldon’s legendary umpire agreed:

β€œA great game – brilliant to have young colts playing proper cricket, batting and bowling. Cricket was the winner.”

🏏 Cavendish Cavillers vs Marldon – Local Derby Delight! 🏏
Venue: Barton CC
Format: T20
Captain: Toby W

Cavendish Cavillers took on local rivals Marldon in a much-anticipated home T20 clash β€” and what an afternoon of cricket it was!

Skipper Toby W, fresh off turning 15, won the toss and made the bold decision to field first. It paid off almost immediately. Andy M struck early with the ball, thanks to a stunning catch by Sanjeewa to get the Cavs rolling.

Enter Darren W – who tore through the Marldon top order with three wickets in one over, ably supported by sharp catches from Vickram and (once again) Sanjeewa.

Then came what may well be the Cavs Catch of the Season – Sanjeewa bowled one in, and Will W took an unreal one-handed left-handed catch to remove another batter.

Not to be outdone, Chip stepped up and put on a masterclass: 4 wickets in just 2 overs! πŸ”₯

Marldon’s Harry R put up a fine fight with a quality 50, but his innings was ended by a brilliant delivery from Vickram and an outstanding catch by Darren W.
Marldon all out for 95.

Cavs chase began with openers Toby W and Greg D both retiring in double figures, setting the tone nicely. After keeping wicket, Coxy batted superbly, retiring at 23. James D and Flo R added useful runs, before Andy M and Will W calmly saw the Cavs home in the 17th over, with just 3 wickets down.

Post-match, umpire Chris W summed it up perfectly:

β€œThe Cavs always have great games against Marldon. There were some outstanding catches today, and Chip’s four balls in two overs were brilliant. Cricket was the winner.”

πŸŽ‰ Result: Cavendish Cavillers WIN by 7 wickets
🧒 Catch of the Day: Will W’s left-handed stunner
πŸ”₯ Bowling Highlight: Chip – 4 wickets in 2 overs
