Hello Dancers.
As I write this message to you all, I am thinking seven days ahead when we will be at The Livermead Cliff Hotel in Torquay (TQ2 6RQ) for our mid-season Christmas Dance and Grand Charity Raffle Night.
It is here that we have our bi-weekly Ballroom Dances in the Riviera Suite Ballroom. The hotel is always most welcoming and can provide drinks as well as Tea/Coffee for you to add to the enjoyment of an evening’s dancing.
We also run a charity raffle at these dances which means that we can put something back into the local community. Our dancers are always most generous in not only donating prizes but also purchasing raffle tickets.
Next Tuesday 25th June, we have a Bumper Charity Event with not only our usual raffle but also a special draw for a donated prize worth over £500 of a 3 night stay in a wonderful lodge near to Looe in Cornwall for up to 6 people. These lodges have full facilities for disabled people so in fact, a real opportunity to enjoy a few days away.
There will also be a couple of other prizes in this special draw. Tickets are selling well at £10 for 5 tickets. There is still time for you to take part, either purchasing tickets at the dance or you can send in a £10 note to me and I will put your name and telephone number on the draw tickets for you. (Be quick. You know what postage is like these days).
We ask that, as many of you that can, will come along and make this a special evening, not only for yourselves but also for Torbay Mencap, our charity for 2024.
And there is more, the hotel will be serving Mince Pies and Cream as a special gift from Olympeas and I as a celebration of this dance also being our Mid Season Christmas Dance. This, and the draw’s, will take place about 9/9:15 when we usually have a short break. As we will have a longer raffle and be eating our mince pies, we will be extending dancing till 11pm that night.
Looking ahead, we will return to The Livermead Cliff Hotel on Tuesday 9th and 16th July and again on 6th August, and thereon, each second Tuesday. Doors open at 7:15 with dancing from 7:45 to 10:30.
Also, usually on the second Saturday of the month, we host a dance at St. Mary’s Parish Centre in Market Street. Plympton. PL7 1QW. We have now been here some 6 months and the dances are well attended and lots of fun. Dancing is from 8 till 10:30.
Our next dance in Plympton is on 13th July when we will again be celebrating our mid season Christmas with Mince Pies and Cream along with our usual complementary Tea/Coffee and a biscuit.
Further ahead even more we have our October Dance Weekend at the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren on the 11th, 12th and 13th . This is a great hotel with most comfortable bedrooms, scrumptious food and a great dance floor in the Washington Ballroom. If you have not yet booked for this, please get in touch soon so that we can reserve your room.
If October is not so convenient, why not come along in January. We will be returning to the Langstone Cliff Hotel for the weekend of 24th, 25th & 26th. Please contact us for more information.
Olympeas and I now have three positive bookings for private Barn Dances and another enquiry for early 2025. We hope that it will not be too long before we are able to host a Barn Dance for all our dancers. As and when, keep an eye out to our emails and you will be the first to know.
It is never too early to think about New Years Eve, which so happens to be on 31st December this year and we are pleased to advise that we will be returning to The Victoria Hotel for our usual booking to dance away 2024 and dance into 2025. Entrance, by ticket only, will include a Victoria Hotel buffet and we promise lots of dancing and fun, and yes, there is sure to be a charity raffle that night as well. Some of our dancers have already booked into local hotels for Bed & Breakfast on the 31st December to save them driving home that night. Actual Tickets for the event will be available soon.
Just a quick reminder that our dance classes are every Thursday evening. If you know of anyone who would benefit from dance instruction, please pass on our details to them and we will make sure that we look after them.
Finally, a special plea from us to try to join us next Tuesday for our Grand Charity event at The Livermead Cliff Hotel. Also, please bring along your friends. This way, we will have a great evening of dancing and also, make a lot of money for this year’s charity: Torbay Mencap.

Another fun couple of hours in the kitchen today. Tastes great.

Well, what a week? Guess who was the host at our Tuesday evening dance at the Livermead Cliff Hotel.

Yes, it was our very own John Westlake. As some of you know, I was not very well and so I was able to secure the services of John to host the event. My wonderful Olympeas was able to look after the dancers at the door as well as running the Raffle.

A special thank you goes to Ross Gateley for her help on the door together with Sandy and John Parsons with the Raffle.

AND… What a great number of dancers, even though they were not aware that I was not going to be there and John was hosting. Many thanks to you all. Olympeas and I look forward to seeing you again at the Livermead Cliff Hotel NEXT Tuesday, 7th May.

Yes, some of the fortnightly bookings have been changed to help the hotel so please review the latest list of Dance Dates. Contact me for a copy of the list of when we are dancing both at the Livermead Cliff Hotel here in Torquay as well as at St. Mary’s Parish Centre in Plympton, usually on the second Saturday of the month. (Look out for September) We also have our Thursday evening Dance Classes.

Included in our Dance Date list are some details of our Langstone Cliff Hotel Dance Weekends. The first is on 11th, 12th & 13th October and the second is in January 2025 over the weekend of 24th, 25th & 26th. We have also listed the special Mid Season Christmas Dance and Charity Draw Event on 25th June when we will be serving you with Mince Pies and Cream as well as drawing the prize for the 3 night stay for 6 people in a lodge in Cornwall. There are lot’s more prizes to be won that night so please do support this event. The cost of the tickets for the break in Cornwall are £10 for 5 tickets. Our Dinner Dance this year is at The Livermead Cliff Hotel on Tuesday 26th November with our annual New Year’s Eve Party Dance at The Victoria Hotel on 31st December. These are entrance by ticket only events.

Hello Dancers.
For those who celebrate at this time, Olympeas and I wish you a Very Happy Easter. To the rest of you, we still wish you a Happy Easter. Any excuse to eat chocolate.
We have had a couple of days away in Great Yarmouth where the weather was fine but the wind was cold. I think it was something to do with all those big propellers that were just off shore. We also went to a real circus. Great fun. Pity there were no animals but the pirates were good.
Now that we are back, we thought that a quick reminder of our events would be welcome. First, our dances at the Livermead Cliff Hotel on the Sea Front. Torquay. (TQ2 6RQ): The next one of these will be on Tuesday this coming week, the 2nd April. After that it is only ONE week later when we are back at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, this is the 9th April. The next dance will be three weeks later on the 30th April. As you know, usually our dances are every other week but occasionally the hotel as a previous booking so on these occasions we have brought the dance forward. Hence the one week and three week gaps. If you do not have the latest print out with some dates in RED, please pick up one at our next dance or let us know and I will send an email to you. So that covers the next few dances at The Livermead Cliff Hotel.
Our dances in St Mary’s Parish Centre in Market Street. Plympton (PL7 1QW), continue to gain strength and numbers. Well it is a good venue, a nice dance floor and the tea and biscuits are never better. This is a fabulous venue with easy parking and…. heating to keep you warm. Do come along and join us for a fun and dance filled evening.
At both of these venues, as you know, we always run a Charity Draw. This year’s charity is The Torbay Mencap. The regular raffles are so well supported and we thank you for your generosity both by the donation of prizes as well as your buying of the raffle tickets. (5 for £1) Added to this we also have a special event with a Grand Prize Draw for which the first prize is a three night stay, for 6 people at a lodge near Looe in Cornwall. These lodges have every need for a disabled person. There are special printed draw tickets which we have for sale. Five tickets for £10. We make sure that your name, address and telephone number are on the tickets before we place them in the draw tumbler.
The draw will take place on Tuesday 25th June at our special Christmas Dance at The Livermead Cliff Hotel. Dancing from 7:30 till 11 that night. Apart from the special star prize there will be others in this draw and we will also have our usual prize draw, so a special evening of Fun and Dancing and lot’s of prizes. Please do support this event. We can all benefit, not only from the dancing but also from the prizes. We also hope to have a special guest to make the draw. If you live some distance away you can always send us £10 and we will write your name on the tickets for you.
The special draw tickets are available any time from us at any of our dances. Also at the Dance Classes which we hold every Thursday at St. Lukes Church Hall in Laburnham Road. Milber. Newton Abbot (TQ12 4LQ) It is here that, over the last couple of weeks, we have been learning The Ria Bachata. This coming Thursday will be week 3 of this dance so those who have been attending should be quite good now. We will see the results on Thursday. I will also be playing this on Tuesday.
If you know anyone who would like to learn to Ballroom Dance, please send them along and we will make them most welcome. We teach, not only the Ballroom but also Sequence Dances, Rock & Roll, Jive and some Linedancing. In fact everything that you would need to know to feel comfortable at one of our Dances. We are also getting enquiries about having a Barn Dance. I will keep you informed if any of these become an event.
Looking ahead. We are taking bookings for our October Dance Weekend at The Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren (EX7 0NA) These weekends are always popular with not only a first class hotel but also comfortable bedrooms, attentive staff, great food and a wonderful Dance Floor in the Ballroom.
The hotel is asking for numbers so we do need to know who is coming for the October 11/12/13th, so please fill in the booking sheet and return it to me as soon as possible. If you don't have a copy, let me know and I will send one on to you. You can either send a cheque for the deposit or telephone me and make a payment by card. Hello Dancers.

What a good dance last week at The Livermead Cliff Hotel here in Torquay but, as you will remember, this was THREE weeks after the previous dance and now we have a dance THIS week on Tuesday. This will get us back on the two weekly cycle. I have seen a bit of video from the Jazz Festival that was at the hotel when we should have been there and it looked like they were having a lot of fun.

So, as I say, we are there this Tuesday, 6th February.

In fact it is a busy week for us as, at our Dance Class on Thursday, amongst other dances we will be going over the Argentine Stroll. We have been asked to do a reprise of this as there are a few dancers who are still having trouble. Not to worry, just come along to the dance class on Thursday at about 7:15 to St Luke’s Church Hall in Laburnham Road. Milber. Newton Abbot. TQ12 4LQ.

Then, on Saturday it will be our second visit to St MARY’S Parish Centre in Market Street. Plympton. PL7 1QW. This is the great new venue for us. We look forward to seeing you there.

We are also taking bookings for the October Dance Weekend at The Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren. Please ask for more information about this dance weekend. We have also taken a few booking for next January’s Dance Weekend. It is never too early to secure your booking.

Please keep in mind the Charity Raffles that we do. The benefactor at this time is Torbay Mencap. Also, I will be sending out news soon about the special donated prize kindly donated from a couple of our dancers. This is a weekend stay for up to 6 people on a lodge in Cornwall. This prize is worth over £500 so well worth you buying a few tickets. These lodges are most suitable to disabled visitors.

We had Chris and his team from CL Treecare in this morning to cut back some trees in our garden. What a great company. Clean and Tidy. They take away all the cuttings and left us with no mess to clean up.

Hello Friends and Dancers.

What a great dance we had last week at The Livermead Cliff Hotel, in Torquay. (TQ2 6RQ) here in South Devon. As always, the staff at this hotel made us most welcome and we had a good crowd. It is always good to see so many people dancing and having fun.

We can also tell you that we have secured future bookings into 2024. Having said that, there are two dates when we have had to make a change. Instead of the usual bi-weekly Tuesday events, the dance that would have been on 14th November will now take place on the 7th. Also, the dance due on 23rd January will now be on 30th.

Our next dance at The Livermead Cliff Hotel will be on 22nd August.

Last week’s monthly dance at Harewood House in Plympton (PL7 2AS) was a good dance although numbers were down. Having said that, those attending said how much they enjoyed the dance. We also have to advise that, ‘Due to circumstances beyond our control’ (Whatever that means) we are unable to have our dance on 16th September. Therefore the next dance will be on 14th October.

We have a few places left on our Dance Weekend at The Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren (EX7 0NA) for 6th, 7th & 8th October.

These weekends are always lots of fun with hours of Dancing, Eating and Merriment while at the same time we are able to add to our charity funds for The British Heart Foundation. You will also have two chances of winning prizes with ‘Heads or Tails’.

If you would like more information or want to join us for this fun packed weekend do get in touch without delay so that we can book some extra rooms for you.

We are pleased to advise that we have had some new people join us for our Dance Classes at St Luke’s Church Hall in Laburnham Road, Milber, just off the Penn Inn roundabout in Newton Abbot. (TQ12 4LQ).

This also means that we have some spare ladies looking for dance partners. Come on you fellows, come and give those ladies a twirl. If you know any single men who may like to join us please do pass on this information.

Another GREAT night at The Livermead Cliff Hotel in Torquay on Tuesaday. It is so uplifting to see so many of you dancing and having fun. Many thanks.

We will do it all over again on Tuesday week (13th June) but NOT on 27th as the ballroom is unavailable. So the next dance after that is on 11th July.

Our British Hart Foundation charity fund is going well and we will maintain the raffles both at The Livermead Cliff Hotel and in Harewood House in Plympton. We will also add the raffle income from our Dance Weekends at The Langstone Cliff Hotel in October and January. More details of this coming to you soon.
