Never hungry, plate always full and STILL running on empty?

When your plate is full of beans, lentils, veg and whole grains, it's easy to feel full and still not eat enough for the training you're doing. In peri-/postmenopause, that gap can shows up as heavy sessions, slow recovery and broken sleep.

In this live I cover why this happens to vegan/ plantbased women in particular, what your body does when it's short, and the ONE simple change to make this week.

Tell me in the comments which energy-dense food you're adding first.

If you've been doing everything right and it still isn't adding up, book a free 30-minute Strong Season Session to see if we're a good fit. Link shared in comments.

Start line. 2,800ft of climb. Brutal and beautiful in equal measure. Finish - 3rd in my age group (VW 55-59).

All of it on plants, same as the last 13 years. 🌱 I put these photos up because someone needs to see it. If you’re wondering whether the body can still be strong, endure and adapt in midlife, on this diet, through all of it - it can.

Mine did again on Sunday. Still in it. đź’Ş

Thanks again to Prosper Events 🦉 for such a great event - it was everything I hoped it to be - and Georgina Woodhead for capturing the day.

If you’re a woman in midlife who trains consistently, and whose hard sessions don't feel like they used to - this one’s for you. 👊

Most menopause advice tells you to cut carbs. If you train, this can be the reason your sessions have gone flat. Today I'm explaining the why of carbs, why it hits vegan women harder and one change to make before your next training session.

* Just correcting my live: insulin sends the signal for glucose to be drawn from bloodstream into the muscle. It does not get drawn into the muscle itself. *

Women in midlife who train consistently - particularly cardio - this one's for you. đź’Ş

If your hard sessions have lost their punch, your legs have nothing, or you finish training more tired than you should be, check your carbs before you put it down to age.

➡ Most menopause advice tells you to cut them. For women who train - and vegan women especially - that advice can backfire.

Join me live this Wednesday at 12.30pm for Wednesday with Wendy. In under five minutes I'll explain why, and give you one change you can make before your next session.

See you there!

I got to ring the bell at Parkrun on Saturday. 21:53, a new PB! đź””

Some context. By background, I’m an ultra runner.

My last ultra race was the Dartmoor Discovery in June, and I hadn’t raced anything short in a long time.

My only fast running had been with my beagle, Cody. He’ll quickly take me to 5:36 min/mile - for all of about thirty seconds - then come to a dead stop for a sniff.

So in the first week of August I started working on it. I added speed work, alongside incorporating some more plyometric work with the strength and conditioning I was already doing.

It hasn’t been comfortable. Going out fast from the start goes against every instinct I’ve built running long distance. Most weeks I had to remind myself to relax, because this is meant to be fun!

What I took from it is that my speed hadn’t disappeared because I’m 55. It had gone because nothing in my training was asking for it. Once I trained for speed deliberately, and made it fit with everything else I do rather than bolting it on, it came back.

Saturday was also my first run in the Vegan Runners vest. Two other Vegan Runners cheered me round, and that gave me my final burst to keep going. It was good to show what running on plants looks like.🌱

Next up is the Quantock Hills Hilly trail half this Sunday, so this week is an easy week. I’ll find out whether the speed carries onto the hills.

Follow along if you want to see how it goes.

If you're a woman in perimenopause or post-menopause who trains consistently, you're lifting, but you're noticing that getting less back than you used to from your training, this is for you.

Give me five minutes and I'll show you why the training that used to work has stopped paying off, and the three changes I make with my clients when this happens so you can consider incorporating these in your training program.

➡️ Training creates the stimulus, but your body needs something to build with. If you're vegan, protein is usually where it falls short. I've put together the high-protein plant-based recipe pack I use with my clients, so you can see what your meals could look like. Drop me a line below and I'll send it over to you in Messenger. 🌱

Let me show you a meal in under 5 minutes with 31g protein - and no it’s not tofu!

Make once, eat twice.

Eating high-protein plant-based meals needn’t be time-consuming when you understand how to put together your plate. 🌱

Follow along for more.
