Canoe Adventures Devon

Canoe Adventures Devon Guided canoe adventures in really BIG canoes to all ages on the River Dart estuary, Devon, UK.

Based on the River Dart in S Devon, we operate a fleet of large canadian canoes offering the chance to get up close and personal with this beautiful river. We have 9 and 12 seat canoes, each with a steersman/guide, offering trips to suit everyone from primary school children upwards. Families, youth groups, hen parties, team enhancement, WI groups, you name it, are all welcome. We also run trips on which you can book-by-the-seat for individuals, couples and small families (Please copy paste and visit our website below for detail). You don't need to know anything about canoeing - Friendly help and instruction will be given. All of our trips are accompanied by an experienced and knowledgeable steersman.

Summer Hols done!
Big love to everyone going back to school tomorrow and BIG gratitude to everyone who came out with us this summer.
We had braced ourselves for another quiet year and it was a scorcher. ☀️ 🛶 💥

We were a bit too busy to do much in the world of social media but we were most definitely out there!

We had to focus mainly on Riverschool and the kayak rentals but we managed a fair few guided trips in our big canoes for those who asked.

We had some Awsome characters join our amazing crew and we upped the game in our cooking at Riverschool where we filled 312 kids+12 adult spaces over 18days.
We’re so blessed to work in The most beautiful place, meet people at their best and happiest, and have the greatest crew we could wish for.
Time to celebrate.
And sleep.
👏 😮‍💨 😴

The Norwegian football fans provided some very welcome inspiration to the school trips we’ve been running these past few weeks. There are always a few Viking stories on our adventures which have been embellished this summer with some Viking chants. Great way to keep the teens motivated, not that these guys lacked any motivation. They were out to study saltmarshes and the estuarine environment and ended up making the Home Reach to Totnes in record time and reenacting a bit of history along the way. And they handled the heat a bit better than Haarland did in Miami!

Congratulations Christian on passing his assessment today by to become one of our Full Skippers! His smily face and radiant cheer is fast becoming a regular feature of the Dart estuary. Surfer and divemaster, he is also a talented, up and coming wildlife photographer and naturalist and will soon have you identifying birds by their calls. His first job was for Monty Halls and he’s great with kids.
No surprise then he’s one of our regular leaders for Riverschool and our Nature Adventures. He also works as a Forest School teacher and a tree surgeon, and he tries to spend his winters exploring New Zealand where he has family. You can follow his adventures and photography on Instagram

Our local MP is championing this and we reckon it’s well worth sharing.

“we need to inject more wellbeing and joy into education. “ oh yes!
We were just joking yesterday after the canoe races that we are actually in the business of joy; canoeing and adventuring is a bit of a sideline, a hustle to enable joy. It’s a strange word, in a way, ‘joy’. It can feel very vague but it’s also so very obvious. I’ve heard it described as “chaotic”. “ hard to control, measure etc. Is it therefore important? Valuable?”

It’s strange that we have come to consider 30 minutes outdoors a day as a nice to have. This is so important.

We are currently amidst schools weeks which used to be our busiest (and most exhausting) time of year but it has become increasingly quiet in recent years as fewer schools can afford us, or, in the case of secondary schools, justify the time in the schedule, or find a minibus to get their kids to us.

We’re very grateful to the Dart Harbour Authority for their support in making our school trips more affordable to local kids. Thank you Dart Harbour & Navigation Authority and Caroline Voaden

Some very welcome inspired leadership from here in South Devon .

It’s here!

Later today, I’ll be presenting my Outdoor Education Bill to parliament.

Among other things, this bill calls for children to spend at least 30 minutes of the school day outside.

We know how important being in nature is to our health and wellbeing. Yet the amount of time children spend outside has dropped by 50% in a single generation.

The Children’s Commissioner recently said we need to inject more wellbeing and joy into education.

That is exactly what my bill aims to do!

We had a blast helping run the races at 🛶🙌🎉

Our big canoes got to fly along the creek with teams battling it out for the 2026 title ! Thanks to all that entered and came along 🙃

See you next year ! If you fancy a canoe trip you know where to find us - up the Creek in Stoke Gabriel or Tuckenhay and hopefully see you all again next year 🤞🙌
