It was great to have Aurelia back on the piste this week! 8 months off actual fencing on maternity leave with the adorable Beren. A couple of takeaways for all of us from her break.
1. Ria was able to come along through last year, do some warm ups and some reffing, which I'm sure has kept her eye in - useful thing to do.
2. Many of us have to take a break from fencing for all sorts of reasons, and coming back can feel daunting. BUT at Bucks Blades you are welcome to come and watch, get back into the vibe, and when you're ready to fence, you will be very welcome, no stress, no pressure, go at your own pace.
Bucks' Blades Fencing Group
Bucks' Blades is a fencing group, which started in spring 2024.
We fence on the Buckinghamshire/Northants border on a Wednesday evening and welcome fencers to our group
Bucks' Blades is 2!! A friend of mine says, '90% of new businesses fail in the first year' - he's an accountant... OK, we're clearly not a business, although thanks to Aurelia, we have excellent accounts. A lot has happened in 2 years. We have run a beginner's course in association with Nick and Luton Swords. Our members have competed in competitions. We have bought the scoring boxes, spools and leads. Aurelia and James welcomed their baby son, Beren and Ria is back with us at the Blades. We have had some great fencing, mostly foil, but some epee, and we work to help each other with our fencing and our reffing. We continue to meet at Silverstone School, do come along and join us, even if it's been a while!

Happy 2026 to you all! We return to fencing this Weds (7th) at Silverstone School Hall. Top news - Blades co-founder Aurelia and husband James' baby son was born on Jan 2nd. Aurelia and baby Beren are both home and doing well. And, of course, he already has his first sword!
Wishing all the Bladers a very Happy 2026, with lots of good fencing!!
Wishing all our lovely Bladers a very Merry Christmas! We're not fencing tonight ... come on darlings, we're all flat out, and obviously not next week, when we will all be busy hanging our stockings! It has been a fab fencing year - some great Wednesdays, a beginner's course, some new and some old faces joining us, and a baby on the way! So, have a lovely break and enjoy your festivities. We will meet again in 2026!

A wonderful vibrant evening of fencing last night, rounding off our first beginners course with a quick Poule alongside our usual fun and relaxed fencing, all finished with chocolates or course 😆

When we all started fencing, did we expect this?!

A super night of introducing our beginners to the piste last night! Next week is the last of the course and Coach Nick has a fun plan for a short Poule (round robin) competition to celebrate 🤺 En Garde!
Most clubs fence to 5, 10, 15 - the Blades default is now to fence to the best of 7!

Knees! We all have them, and whatever the shape, however much we like them or not, show them off or cover them up, for fencer's knees are a bit crucial (cruciate, one could say!). So, this link is quite useful.

Tomorrow, Sept 24th, we start our first Beginner's Course! Now, lovely Bladers, cast your minds back to when you started fencing, perhaps at a beginner's course. What really helped you to get to grips with fencing and choose to stick with it. Conversely, what might have put you off?!
