Legacy of a rebel. Owain ap Gruffydd (c. 1359 – c. 1415), commonly known as Owain Glyndŵr.
Owain Glyndŵr Day is held annually on 16th September in Wales, as a celebration of Owain Glyndŵr, the last native Prince of Wales and founder of the first Welsh parliament. The day is remembered across Wales but particularly North Wales & Eryri. The day is celebrated locally in Harlech, where an annual procession tales place.

Note: The Baner Cymru or Y Ddraig Goch (Current Welsh Flag 🏴 ), was not officially adopted until later 1959. However, Owain Glyndŵr did raise the dragon standard during his revolts against the occupation of Wales by the English crown. Owain’s banner known as Y Ddraig Aur (‘The Golden Dragon’) was raised over Caernarfon during the Battle of Tuthill in 1401 against the English. Glyndŵr chose to fly the standard of a golden dragon on a white background, the traditional standard. The colours of green and white are the colours of the Tudor family; a standard featuring the red dragon was used by Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.
