💜 This Weeks Results 💛

1st XV win in another high scoring game in Glasgow yesterday against a young fit GHK side who threw the ball around well.

POTM - Alex Apthorpe for his great scrummaging and monstrous ball carrying all around the park as well as capping it off with two tries.

2nd XV with a tough loss against a very clinical Stirling side who capitalised every time they got in the 22. Marr had a tough opening 20 mins but then grew into the game and played some very nice rugby when they had the ball.

POTM - Andrew Ramage for his defensive efforts putting in some big shots and some big carries in the centre with his partner Keir Anderson. Andrew was flinging the ball nicely as well and topped it off with a well deserved score.

2A with a great result in a local derby v Killie in a very entertaining game with some great tries involved.

POTM - Glen Young

1st XV Squad Announcement 📣

After a week off the 1st XV are back in action tomorrow up the M77 to Old Anniesland on one of the best pitches in Scotland so plenty of expansive rugby to be on show.

Team News 📰

Hendrie and Apthorpe are joined by Jackson in the front row this week with Affleck moving back to the second row to partner Andrew. Steele on his 50th is back in the side joined by fellow farmer Brown and special mention to Brocket who returns from a knee injury for his first game of the season.

In the backs Beckwith partners McAra this week with Inglis moving back to the midfield to continue his partnership with Morgan. Jacobson starts this week joined by Broadfoot and Wood who had a great game last time out.

On the bench Khan returns after becoming a father last week so congratulations Shabaz from everyone at Marr. Rogers returns after a tiny fracture in his wrist keeping him out over the last month with McCulloch covering the back row. Abbot and Scott are covering the backs tomorrow.

Player Milestone 📣

It’s 50 ⬆️ for Callum Steel this weekend!

Huge congratulations to Steely, who will pull on the Marr 1st XV jersey for the 50th time this weekend against GHK 👏🏻

Steely is Marr through and through, having started his rugby journey at the club in Primary 3, aged just 7, and never looked back since. A true Marr man! 💜

Callum is the ultimate example to any young aspiring Marr player that hard work, patience and dedication pay off. Having made his 1st XV debut straight out of school, Steely has worked relentlessly over the years to reach this milestone. Never one to complain, kick up a fuss or take his frustrations out on anyone else, he has stayed patient, continued to work hard and is now a mainstay and senior figure in the 1st XV.

Steely’s elusive running and relentless work rate in the back row have seen him become part of some ridiculously good back rows that Marr have fielded over the years. Along the way, he has been part of the squads that won National 1, lifted the Premiership title and reached the Scottish Cup Final at Murrayfield 🏆

As the years have passed, Callum has grown from a skinny kid with an endless engine into a top-class rugby player. Relentless in attack and defence, always the first to put his hand up to carry and never one to back down from a challenge. A player who gives absolutely everything for the jersey, week in, week out!

There aren’t many better men at Marr Rugby Club, nor will there be going forward. Callum, you truly embody what it means to be Marr, and this milestone is a testament to everything you have put into the club over the years.

Congratulations, Steely! We cannot wait to see the next 50 💜
