Sunday Summary: U16 Girls

Marr Rugby U16 Girls travelled down to Stewartry on Sunday for their second Inspiresport West U16 Girls League match.

It’s always a tough, physical match at Stewartry & Sunday was certainly no exception. With only 13 available players the Marr girls knew they all had to play the whole match & took on that task admirably.

Both teams started with purpose, Marr holding off an early Stewartry attack before working their way downfield, in the face of dogged defence, to open the scoring with a well worked move from backs. Marr kept building phases to score a couple more converted tries but Stewartry came roaring back unleashing their pacey backs for 2 fine tries. Marr responded in kind.

The teams continued to defend hard with great tackles & breakdown contests galore in a highly entertaining game that was played in a great spirit. Marr gradually gained the upper hand & closed out a hard match with 3 further second half tries.

Sunday Summary: U14 Girls

On Sunday Marr Rugby U14 Girls welcomed Ayr to Fullarton, with a sprinkling of Irvine & Cumnock girls also in the visiting side.

Spectators were treated to a highly entertaining game with both teams keeping the ball alive well despite committed tackling. Both teams scored some excellent, well worked tries.

The Marr girls showed excellent teamwork with players adapting well to new roles in the team & a different attacking system. The coaches were delighted with the progress shown in this strong performance with Marr 49-41 ahead when the game unfortunately had to be stopped due to an injury to an Ayr player. All at Marr wish the player involved a speedy recovery & hope to see her back playing soon.

Sunday Summary: U12 Girls

Marr Rugby U12 Girls welcomed Ayr to Fullarton on Sunday. The girls enjoyed a great morning of rugby with tackling & rucking continuing to improve. Lots of strong running with good support running resulted in some cracking tries.

Very well done to our 2 awesome Marr debutants, 2 others making their first appearance of the season, & also to our girls who volunteered to play with Ayr so that we could get an 8 aside game.

It was great to see players from both teams giving their all, playing some great rugby & enjoying themselves. Thanks to Ayr for a really good game.

Our U16 girls travel to Stewartry for another tough league match after coming through a stern test last weekend.

Marr U14 Girls are looking forward to hosting Ayr, looking to build on last Sunday’s strong performance. It should be a great game at Fullarton!

The Marr U12 Girls welcome back quite a few players for the visit of an Ayr / Stewartry combined team as they continue to get to grips with their new age-grade laws.

Sunday Summary U16 Girls:

Marr Rugby U16 Girls opened their Inspiresport Girls U16 West League season at home to Biggar today.

It’s always a fiercely contested game with lots of great rugby when these sides meet, & this one was no exception. Biggar started very strongly, opening the scoring with a cracking try. The Marr girls battled their way into the game & began to gain the edge as they went through their phases. Both teams competed hard at the breakdown & crunching tackles were going in all over the field. The Marr forwards put in a huge shift to give their backs a great attacking platform.

Marr ultimately took the win although the final scoreline in no way reflected how close & competitive the game was.

Thanks to Biggar for making the journey to Troon & for a great game. Best wishes for the rest of the league.

Sunday summary:

Marr Rugby U14 & U12 Girls enjoyed their visit to Greenock Wanderers today with both sides having really competitive games.

Marr U12 Girls were missing a lot of players today but travelled up with 7 girls. Our hosts kindly provided players to make a 10 aside game. It was fantastic to see the girls getting to grips with lineouts, 5 player scrums, handoffs, kicking & other new skills on a bigger pitch as they continue their sharp learning curve. The girls were doing really well at getting into rucks quickly & also communicated well which, along with strong support play resulted in some excellent play.

Marr U14 Girls had battled to a hard fought draw with the team continuing to gel well as new partnerships are being forged. The girls moved the ball really well as the game progressed. The girls continue to work on their speed to rucks but showed definite progress today. Lots of positives from today’s performance with the girls showing how well they’re adapting to 13 aside full pitch rugby.

Well done to all the girls involved & many thanks to Greenock Wanderers for hosting today.

This Sunday Marr Rugby U12 & U14 Girls travel to Fort Matilda for a fixture with Greenock Wanderers, games kick off at 12.00 with Marr Ladies Rugby playing there straight afterwards.

Marr U16 Girls kick off their Inspiresport West League campaign at home to Biggar on Sunday. The game is at Marr College Playingfields kicking off at 2.00.
