πŸ†πŸ† INTER DISTRICT TROPHY RETAINED πŸ†πŸ†

We travelled to Solihull yesterday to contest the final against the West Midlands District.

With a threat of rain forecast through the day, The Forty Club - Wales District won the toss and chose to field, restricting the West Midlands to 152/9 from their 45 overs. Charlie Robards top scored with 33, while Jonathan Hubschmid 9-5-15-4 and Mark Thomas 9-4-14-0 were the pick of the bowlers.

Despite Mark Hadden taking 4/25 for west mids, we chased down the total for the loss of 6 wickets with 20 overs to spare, thanks to an attacking 60 from 40 balls up top from Jonathan Davies, and 54 from Michael Martin in the middle.

And so our season concludes next weekend with the Inter District Trophy final vs the West Midlands District.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to getting us there, and the very best of luck to those who will contest the final. πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ ΏπŸπŸ†πŸ™

The Forty Club - Wales District contested our regional final yesterday against Kent and East Sussex at Trowbridge Cricket Club.

In a rain affected match there were πŸ’―s for James Breese and Micky Martin as we posted 332/3, then restricted our opponents to 114/9 with Mark Thomas claiming 4 wickets.

West Midlands beat Forty Club Yorkshire & North East by 98 runs in the other regional final, so we will now play them in The Forty Club National final. Further details to be announced shortly...

Something different yesterday as we entered a team in the Penarth CC 6 aside competition.
A strong performance in the group stages saw us top our group with 4 wins out of 4 and progress to the final against the other group winners, Swings Both Ways.
Unfortunately though it wasn't to be, as youth overcame experience to beat The Forty Club off the penultimate ball.
Thank you to Penarth Cricket Club for the invite and delivering a highly enjoyable day. Can we book on for 2026 yet? πŸ™

James Breese's innings of 52 yesterday saw him become the 9th person to pass 1000 runs for the The Forty Club Wales District πŸ‘

Yesterday we played our annual game against Penarth Colts, dismissing them for 227 after winning the toss and opting to bowl. There were fifties from Kreshay Bharwani and Gruffudd Reynolds for the hosts, while Jon Lloyd cleaned out the tail to finish with 3 wickets.

Some light rain lead to a slight delay to the restart, after which we chased down the total for the loss of 4 wickets (3 for Kreshay,) thanks to fifties for James Breese and Jonathan Davies.

We played the regional semi final of the IDT yesterday and edged another tense and close game vs the Eastern Counties.

Wales won the toss and opted to bowl, dismissing the Eastern Counties for 192, built around 68 from opener Ian Bryce 68, while Owain Hopkins took 3/41.

The game was delayed for over an hour towards the end of the first innings as Ben Edkins sustained a suspected broken leg whilst taking a catch. We were all extremely thankful for the quick action from the doctors on site and wish Ben a full and speedy recovery. πŸ™

In reply the chase was paced perfectly, starting cautiously against some good new ball bowling and accelerating through the innings.

Opener Micky Martin provided the backbone of the reply with 89, and Jon Hubschmid saw us home with a run a ball knock with 2 balls to spare.

We will now play the winner of the game between West District and Kent & East Sussex District in the regional final in August.

The Forty Club - Wales District were at Cimla Cricket Club today as part of their centenary season.

Rain between innings unfortunately curtailed proceedings, but not before The Forty Club had bowled the hosts out for 65, including 3 wickets from Krishnan Subramanian and 2 apiece for Jon Lloyd and debutant Iain Burns.

Thank you for hosting us and all the best for the rest of your centenary season. πŸ’―

Yesterday we batted first against the RAF Development XI and amassed 372/3, with Michael Provis hitting 171* , the 10th highest individual score for The Forty Club and the second highest for The Forty Club - Wales District.

His unbroken partnership of 280 with Nick Morgan (102*) was also the second highest partnership in the club's history.

In reply, the RAF team reached the target for the loss of only two wickets with more than five overs to spare…definitely not a day to be a bowler!

The 745 runs scored was the highest ever aggregate match total in almost 90 years of Forty Club cricket!
