Today I completed the 100 Kata challenge (for those who don’t know, a kata is a set sequence of karate techniques and the challenge is to perform a kata 100 times).
As you tick off each performance you realise how far away 100 is. My kata was Ji’in which meant I had to do 700 Kiba Dachi stances so my legs got painful way earlier than my lungs. I must recommend that you don’t do this challenge alone.
I had originally decided to do this annual challenge because it celebrated karate day, I’d done it before and I wanted to test myself to see if I’d finally recovered from my prolonged bout of COVID.
But that was the key word ‘recovered’ and I started to think about all the karateka who didn’t recover and so I completed the challenge, on my own, as a small token of remembrance to and respect for all the karateka who were lost as a result of the pandemic.

Trowbridge Adult Shotokan Karate Club
Unfortunately this Club has closed because there is no one available to run it. A student is entered into a 'grading' only when I believe that they are ready.
Gain lifestyle benefits including increased fitness, focus, self confidence, awareness...while learning karate for self defence (for over 17's) I run a small, friendly, club where I give adults the chance to gain the many personal lifestyle benefits that come from learning karate. I will show you what you need to know to learn karate; starting with the basics and working up to more advanced techn
So, the last training session has gone, the final drinks night has passed and it is time to say goodbye ☹️
This page will be removed when I’ve worked out how to do it.

The end of an era ☹️
The Yuu Ryoku Kai (also known as karate-Trowbridge) has been around, in various guise’s since 2002 Currently it is a small, adult only, Club running twice a week at the 1st Trowbridge Scout hall.
Students have come and gone but a few students have been with the club for a long time, most noticeably Jeff and Mike who have helped me through some difficult times and encouraged me when I doubted myself.
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching those who have come to the Dojo but I’m moving away from Trowbridge in the new year and, since there is no-one able to take over, the Club will be closed. For administrative reasons it will have to close before the end of the year so 17th Dec has been chosen, to coincide with the Club’s Christmas drinks.
It is sad to think the Club will no longer exist but I have to move on and I hope my current students will continue their karate journey somewhere else (as I will).
The website, page and email will all be closed on 17th/18th Dec.

Anyone can train in Karate.
Grandad, Karate-Grandad
We made it 😅😅
Phil, Jeff and Mike performed Sochin 100 times whilst Joe performed Heian Yondan 100 times! It took us 3 hours but the important thing is that the effort we put into no. 100 was the same as for no. 1; it might not of had the same result but the effort was there.
Great effort guys well done,
Members of the Club will be undertaking the annual 100 kata challenge (a single kata repeated 100 times) on Saturday (because not everyone is available on Sunday). This year we will be supporting JJ Smith’s Crohn’s & Colitis appeal.
