A few snaps from Day 3 of our Spring Camp!
And what a camp it was... we managed to dodge the weather and all 14 of our riders took on board our camp theme of "independence" with gusto!
Day 3 saw them learn about Barrel Racing with Luke Burridge and how it can transfer to the other equestrian disciplines, go through their paces in a fun flatwork lesson with Sam Newberry, and then head out on a hack round our beautiful farm with the most stunning views over the Weald of Kent 👌.
As always, the success and popularity of our camps depend on our brilliant coaches; Tom Mitchell Equine Behaviour, Sam Newberry, Luke Burridge, Camilla Kruger, and our very own Hamish Gillanders, Caroline Barbour and Jason Webb. Thanks also to Madi Kish and In Hand Equine Osteopathy for their evening talks, they were fantastic.
Lastly, a huge thanks to those behind the scenes making it all happen; Luisa, Daisy and Camilla on the yard, Penny and Jem for their organisation, Anna for her delicious food and Sophie for her sublime hosting skills!

I am delighted to be heading down to Wiltshire for a day of teaching individual and group clinics on the 8th June at the fantastic facilities of the Tedworth Equestrian Centre at the invite of Bourne Valley Riding Club.
This will be followed by a relaxed, intimate outdoor demonstration of how we work through ground and ridden issues with a wide range of horses. Plenty of time for Q&A, too!
At the same time, there will be an opportunity to learn about the work of the and support them through a charity raffle.

Brilliant 2nd Day at our Spring 3 Day Camp! The theme is "Independence", and our riders did some practical desensitising with Hamish (think picking up hi-vis vests for hacking, "parking" your horse up at the mounting block, picking up mugs of tea 🤣), negotiating obstacles with Jason whilst heading out and about round the farm, and a polework/ jump clinic with the fabulous Camilla Kruger. They're now looking forward to putting all their new found confidence into practice tomorrow! 🤞

Jason's on pheasant watch!
🐎 Tuesday Check-In 🐎
Join Jason, Caroline, and Hamish aboard Maggie, Sindy, and Toos as they head out for a canter across the top fields. Take in the stunning Kentish views and admire Caroline's impressive filming skills while riding a young horse😂.
Maggie takes the pheasants in her stride, but that open gate was apparently a different story... 😅
Joking aside, experiences like these are an important part of a horse's education. Learning to settle in open fields, canter alongside other horses, and cope with unexpected wildlife helps build confidence, trust, and security. All of this lays the foundation for a happy, reliable riding horse that owners can enjoy, whatever discipline they choose to pursue.

...BUT...
I'm proud of my Aussie farming heritage 🐮🐑
Farming is real.
You learn to improvise.
You learn to take responsibility and make tough decisions.
You understand animals as animals; their behaviour, their needs, their environment.
You care deeply for animals without humanising them.
But good stockmanship also takes finesse, expertise and nuance.
Reading tiny changes in behaviour, movement and energy before they become problems👌
Attention to detail and an understanding that takes a lifetime to accumulate.
There’s real pressure too.
Farmers have to produce the goods to stay in business, and that's what clients expect from me, too.
Farmers work with they've got, and so have I... all horses, no matter their history or the expectations of their future.
No picking and choosing an easy route.
Mud, broken gates, bad weather, long days and jobs that still need doing whether you feel like it or not.
Keeping old tools and vehicles going because they still do the job, but saving for new kit that brings real benefits.
Wranglers, checked shirts, Blundstones… practical clothes for practical work, not for the socials 😉.
So yes, agricultural... I choose to take that as a compliment 🚜... just don't ask me to sing 🎤 (shout out to the The Hawkstone Farmers Choir !)

We held our very first "Create a Camp" with these fab riders who have been coming on camps for as long as I can remember!
Lots of laughs, a little bit of learning and a whole lot of fun in the sun...
Not sure we can post any of the videos taken 😂🤔😳
Thank you for making it a very memorable 3 days... and promise the Sundowners will be a regular feature from now on!
Our "Create a Camp"s are for groups of up to five people to come and immerse themselves at Your Horsemanship, with choices of sessions, delicious food, beautiful surroundings and being part of the "family". They are all booked for 2026 along with our regular Camps, but we're busy planning exciting developments for the future!

🤩 Sindy is our Star of the Week 🤩
Look at her eye! You can just tell she's a good'un 😉
Sometimes the easier horses go under the radar, but we can't look past 4yo Sindy for our Star of the Week.
She really is just as beautiful on the inside as the outside. She is lovely to handle for everyone on the yard and has taken to ridden work without any fuss and is enjoying her rides round the farm, lanes at the end of her third week with us.

WILTSHIRE RIDERS!
A reminder that I am at Tedworth Equestrian Centre on 8th June for some clinics, lessons and an evening demo.
I am a guest of the Bourne Valley Riding Club and the day is supporting the Armed Forces Equine Charity. The link for booking and info is in the description.
I believe the individual lessons and ridden clinics are full, but there is space on groundwork clinic and tickets for the evening demo available 👌. Would be great to see you there!

Tuesday Check In… This is what we do!
What Hamish has done with this horse in just 4 weeks is remarkable.

We posted a Tuesday Check In when he had first arrived, and I honestly wasn’t sure we were going to be able to work with him. But four weeks on, this is Hamish catching him after the first time we had turned him out in the paddock, and his fifth ever ride.

We don’t have the Badminton cross-country footage or the perfect piaffe shot for our social media, or the amazing liberty and trick performances to wow the crowds. But what we do have is horsemanship that works, day in, day out with young horses starting their ridden careers, to those that have learnt dangerous habits, to severely traumatised horses.

It’s not always pretty, it’s not always perfect and it’s not always picture-worthy. But over the past 30 years, more than 4,000 horses have come to me for training and it has always been a dream of mine to build a team of exceptional horse people to continue to do what we do. Trainers that are capable of giving young horses the very best foundations and taking on the toughest horses to re-educate.

So a huge thank you to my incredible team, and a big shout out to all of you out there showing up every day, and doing your best you can for your horses!

A few snaps from last week's Hacking Camp!
Absolutely loved our couple of days with this lovely bunch of horses and humans. Everyone crossed some major "wins" off their bucket lists, including some regulars who have been coming for as long as I can remember!
A huge thank you to Little Scotney Rehabilitation Livery Golding Veterinary Physiotherapy for letting us have our cream teas en route in the most stunning location, and to and Maggie Pattinson On the hoof dt for their brilliant coaching.
As ever, the whole crew on the yard did me proud, and looked after the campers as well as going about their daily business.
We have some particularly challenging horses in on training at the moment, and Hamish has done some incredible work with them; more on that in our posts this week!
