Imagine reading these messages about yourself...

Can you imagine having energy “at an all-time high”?

Fitting into clothes you haven’t worn for years?

Actually feeling strong in your sessions and seeing progress?

Having a coach who listens to you and takes on board what you say?

Feeling “genuinely impressed” with how you look?

Feeling proud of yourself for looking after your health and not giving up?

I don’t share this kind of stuff to stroke my own ego.

I do it to show you what’s possible with a bit of commitment.

If you’re feeling stuck and anxious about your future health and happiness, and you’re ready to sort it out (once and for all)…

Reach out for a friendly chat.

I’m not someone who automates everything or palms you off to an AI pretending to be me.

Just shoot me a message and I’ll get back to you personally to see if coaching is right for you.

This week 😅

Beautiful in many ways, celebrating two of my kids' birthdays and spending a bit more time with them than usual.

But that's come at the “cost” of a lacklustre training week.

(which is ironic as my last post was about maximizing the last of my physical prime 🫠)

I'm not going to beat myself up for not being perfect, but I'm also not going to let my standards slip.

I've still got the rest of the week to make the most of, and next week to get back on track.

It's not because the gym is my entire personality, or because I'm anxious about eating too much cake and likely missing a session.

The balance of not beating yourself up whilst also pushing to do and be more is a hard one to get right.

I know in the long run I'll be happier being fit, strong and healthy, and feeling good about how I look.

I'm betting on putting in the work now to reap the rewards, Not just in the moment but down the line.

When health and vitality are the difference between playing with grandkids and being useful and independent or not.

I’m feeling the (self-imposed) pressure to do more...

I’m at an age now where my physical prime is here, and I don’t want to see it go to waste.

Not from a place of self-loathing or insecurity.

From a place of privilege.

I’m lucky enough to have my health and in a position to pursue my goals.

I’m not a millionaire with no kids, sipping a piña colada on a beach in Bali with nothing but time on my hands.

I’m busy as s**t, and there is more than enough life stress to go around 😅

But I want to maximise my time on this earth.

To be in the best shape of my life AND a great dad, coach, and husband.

I’ll be documenting some of the goals I’m setting and changes I’ll be making.

If you give a s**t, feel free to follow along.

If your schedule only allows you to get in the gym 2-3x per week.

You don't need to be perfect, but you DO need to push yourself and make each workout count.

If you can commit yourself to 3 45-60min training sessions per week and realistic lifestyle changes...

And you're done with letting life get in the way of your health and confidence...

Or second-guessing if you're doing the right things in the gym to build muscle and strength...

Shoot me a DM with the number "3"

I've made it my job to give you the solution to stop letting your job and family life throw you off feeling good about yourself again 🫡

If you’ve been in a bit of a slump recently...

Don’t beat yourself up.

There’s no denying that after 30, getting fit, healthy, and liking how you look is harder.

Hopefully, reading this testimonial has given you some hope.

Getting in shape isn’t impossible.

You can build a body you feel proud of.

Have better energy for your work, kids, and partner.

Not have to dread going to the doctor and hearing bad news.

Or get your passion and enthusiasm for life back.

A fat loss jab and a program from ChatGPT aren’t going to do that.

Accountability, structure, and support from a real person who takes your results personally will.

Another year of having the best intentions with the gym but letting life get in the way, like it does every time.

If you want to, make one investment into the most important thing you have, your health.

An investment that will keep paying you back for years to come...

Reach out by sending me a message.

We’ll have an honest conversation about you, your goals, and whether coaching is right for you.

No bots or sales scripts.

Just an honest conversation.

Should you start every workout with compound lifts?

Common wisdom says you should start every session with a compound lift.

*A compound lift is a lift that involves multiple joints and muscle groups working together.

Think leg press, bench press, deadlifts, etc.

If you have zero niggles or injuries and you're at the beginning stages of your lifting journey, it's pretty good advice.

If you're anything like me, though, you have niggles and injuries, past and present.

Going straight into your heaviest lift first might not be such a good idea.

If I tried to go straight into hack squats for my leg session, my knees would hate me for it.

Instead, I perform hamstring curls and leg extensions first (isolation exercises).

Then, by the time I get to hack squats and heavy lunges, my knees are warmed up (and my legs slightly pre-fatigued), allowing me to train my main lifts close to failure with slightly less weight.

Does this mean you should never, under any circumstances, start your session with a compound lift?

Nope, it’s a case by case basis.

If you’ve got bulletproof knees and enjoy starting your session with squats and never have any issues, go for it.

If you're early on in your strength training journey, starting your workouts with compounds is a good idea, as it'll help with skill acquisition and buliding a strength base.

As you get stronger or accumulate niggles, injuries, or general wear and tear, starting a workout with specific isolation exercises that target the muscle group you’re training = a good idea for longevity.

Sometimes things happen that snap you out of a routine.

I'm the worst at settling into a routine and forgetting things on the periphery.

Sometimes things like this act as a reminder to recalibrate and not let the things that matter most get missed.

And, to appreciate every day like it's your last.

For many people, it will be.

Most of us CAN get in the gym 2-3 x per week.

And if we can allocate 2-3 x 45 mins sessions per week, you better make those sessions count.

You may not get a choice in how much time you can dedicate to training but you do have a choice in how productive you are when you’re there.

One the the biggest way to waste time is scrolling on your phone in your gym sessions.

I still work with clients in person so spend a lot of time in gyms, and I see this all the time.

I don’t really care how people want to spend their time in the gym if they aren’t asking for my advice or a client of mine.

So it’s not a judgement.

But surely the gym is the one place to put your phone down?

Get out of your mind and into your body and forget about other s**t that's going on in your life.

If there is one thing you can do to get a better session physically and mentally, stop the scrolling and just get on with it.

How I made training fun again …

I know the frustration of looking in the mirror and questioning if you’ve made progress.

This is the point where a lot of guys give up and either just coast in the gym or stop going completely.

The only reason I didn’t fall into that trap was a simple mindset shift.

(And the fact I could be undiagnosed autistic, who doesn’t like to break routine, but we’ll ignore that for now 🤣)

Focusing on performance instead of obsessing over the mirror (even if your goals are mainly focused on the physical changes)

It’s more effective and will make your experience of the journey a more positive one.

No brainer, really.
