Practicing at home is a lesson in not letting the external distractions affect my internal focus. Between cats & kids, there’s always noise & movement & desires for my attention, but in many ways I prefer this to practicing alone in a quiet, secluded place where my children don’t absorb seeing my daily movement, & hopefully in time come to want something similar for themselves. Modeling these self care habits hopefully has an impact long term - there are many times they stop what they’re doing & love to join in, even creating their own unique yoga asanas alongside me. Jasper’s current favorite is his ‘unicorn’ pose creation, a modified version of 3 legged dog. It brings me such joy to see their creativity in movement.

-Arms are straight
-Shoulders beyond the fingertips
-Knees tucked into the underarms

✨Kakasana, crow pose (Mango the Maine C**n had to photo bomb, his cat radar just knows when I’m doing yoga & he always joins in)
-Bent elbows
-Elbows stacked over wrists
-Thighs hugging the outsides of the arms

Heart opening yoga poses create space for compassion, self love, & forgiveness, they can also create feeling of vulnerability, even fear. When we lean into the discomfortable aspects of a pose we are opening ourselves to the opportunities for self growth they gift us.

Inversion practice at home in my lush, orchid filled garden.

Grateful for teaching a blissfully heart melting yin yoga class today focusing on the Anahata, or heart chakra, combined with loving kindness (metta) meditation, & soothing pranayama practice. It’s a privilege to experience what happens when a group of heart focused people get together to mindfully practice yoga & meditation. I love holding space for the magic.
