After 10 incredible years, we bid farewell to the Fire-Dragons. While this chapter comes to a close it's impossible to cover the amazing journey we've shared. This team has been so much more than football--it's been a family, and a source of pride for everyone involved. Together we've created countless memories, won thrilling matches and built friendships that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this remarkable journey--players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors (especially Revive Mortgages, Detail Design Engineering, and Tom Finkill events). Your dedication and passion have been the heart and soul of this team.

Here's to AFC Monton Fire-Dragons! and the incredible decade of football, friendship and fun we've had.

2024-04-13 Saw the Fire-Dragons play in a Friendly vs a strong Salford Lads Club side. Fire-Dragons had some good opportunities in this game, but were unable to convert them. On the other hand we did not defend as well as we might and conceded too many easy goals. Plenty to work on prior to our up coming cup and league games.

2024-04-20 The Fire-Dragons competed in the BBDFL "League Cup" quarter final vs a strong Salford Lads Club. After a poor start where they conceded in the first minute the Fire-Dragons were able to play good football. Defending well, and hitting the opposition on the break. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. They eventually tired and conceded a few goals towards the end of the game. However, they managed to score themselves and gave a good account against strong opposition.

Yesterday saw the Fire-Dragons play Monton Sports in the BBDFL Players Cup, 2nd round. Fire-Dragons were first on the scoresheet, an outstanding overhead kick from Jake!

We were soaking up pressure but dealing with it well. In the second half we conceded two goals, but the Fire-Dragons kept pushing and got the equaliser. FT 2-2 and penalties it was. They scored all their penalties and a master class from our captain, Sammo, saw him both score a penalty and save the opposition's final penalty of the shoot out to win us the game.

Catch-up: AFC Monton Fire-Dragons played away to Atherton Cols in the BBDFL league on 23rd March. The hosts set a fast pace, which we struggled to match in this game. First half saw the Fire-Dragons 1-0 down, but we were still in the game. The second half saw us equalise, which changed the game for a period, but Atherton Cols were too strong on the day. We will use the defeat to improve going forward.

MoTM for this game was Kian, who showed excellent work rate, encouragement and communication, with a goal too.🏆

Today saw the Fire-Dragons visit East Leigh for an early kick off in the BBDFL league fixture. The game ended in a 4-1 win for the Fire-Dragons. Well done to all, especially to the parents who braved a windy and cold conditions.

Revive MoTM was Paul🏆 who played as a forward in the first half, scoring a goal from outside the area before moving to CM to cover for injuries and also had a composed performance as CB in the second half.

Tom Finkill MoTM was Jake🏆who managed a clever finish from a Corner and showed desire and passion throughout the game.

Well done all, just another two league games left for this campaign

AFC Monton Fire-Dragons were back in the league this week vs FC Strikerz. In tough conditions they managed to play some excellent football. They started brightly, but found themselves 3-1 down. However, they persisted with playing football the right way and came back into the game going into half-time at 4-3. Second half was much the same and the final score ended 8-4 to AFC Monton.

Two MoTMs today:
Revive Mortgages MoTM was Gabriel, who has shown great improvement over the last month and managed to score and assist today🏆

Tom Finkill MoTM was Theo, who showed tenacity, speed, and composure in his role today. Well done 🏆

But overall an excellent performance by everyone on the pitch today 👏👏

DDE MoTM this week in our Friendly against Beechfield Hurricanes is "El Capitan"! Our Goalkeeper, Sammo 🏆

In a tough match Sammo rallied his teammates to keep battling throughout. He made some excellent saves and his distribution was good. It was a loss for the Fire-Dragons on the day, but we were playing a man down for a good 20 minutes due to injury and even went down to 9 men for a short while due to another temporary injury. We came back into the game, but tired towards the end and our opponents were too strong on the day.

We will take the positives from this game and also use it to improve.
