Most people don’t actually understand the importance of the gut microbiome and the important roles it plays

It interacts with blood glucose, hormones & our immune system alongside a lot more

This is why I’m so big on the importance of nutrient density and also diversity

Without those our body just simply will not function efficiently

As I say.. a healthy functioning body will do whatever we want to really easily

Health doesn’t just start or come from our gut health.. as a lot we do can effect the health of our gut in the opposite way

But if you or your clients have a healthy gut… then they will more than likely be 100x healthier and change faster than most other people

A healthy gut to me is someone who

>Digests whole food without any issue
>Feels energetic on a day to day basis
>Passes 1-2 regular stools (at least, more is fine in some cases) on a daily basis
>Has a healthy hormonal cycle or pattern

If you want any of the studies I’ve cited then please just DM me and I’ll send them over 🤝🫡

My current training looks like this..

Something I’ve found recently is that sometimes I think I can run before I can walk when changing training

Getting into a more performance based sport again after years of not doing performance based work is no joke

Combining this with resistance training can be tricky..

Getting the volume right with resistance training and also only taking certain exercises to failure I’ve found to be a key to balance everything

Jiujitsu is extremely taxing… especially because I’m w**k and try my hardest every session which I’m learning that needs to change if I value my elbows, hips and knee joints haha

But going full throttle on everything is only a recipe for an injury when you’re more advanced with lifting and training in general

So it’s a game of slowly building up both to find that balance, wherever that sits

Super cool and interesting stuff though

But yeah.. that’s how I structure my training which allows me to recover come Monday to hit another week out the park 🤝🫡

Just think if your client was an civil engineer and speaking to you about building bridges…

Would you be interested?

Probably not..

Which is like me when both my brothers speak to each other and get hard over that stuff (they’re both civil engineers)

So why do you think every single client will absolutely love training and nutrition like you do?

They won’t haha.

Some will.

But a lot of others won’t

Which is what you need to realise

And start coaching them when they’re struggling

Rather than getting pi**ed off with them not doing what you’re advising

Clients come to you as they’re not that motivated and struggling

So expect to have some check ins that are tough for you as a coach

BUT

If you handle them correctly from even before they sign up..

You can make sure their journey is a lot smoother

Which is what me and Ali speak to all our mentor clients about

If your clients has a near perfect first 4-8 weeks and you coach them correctly by asking the right questions and setting the right expectations and they make ridiculous progress then they will have less problems moving forwards

This is how we mentor you

And it’s important we build up from the base with coaching

As we are finding that some coaches are nailing the basics

And by the basics I mean nailing the start of a clients journey

From the consultation call through to week 8

This needs to be solid.

Otherwise clients will come up with more issues and bottlenecks which you have only just found

Which slows down progress

And therefore makes your job a lot harder but more importantly the client doesn’t make the progress they’ve paid you for

So remember

We have to nail the basics at the start of a clients journey..

Otherwise it’s going to have a knock on effect on your results and retention

🤷🏻‍♂️

The biggest part of someone’s journey comes at the part they want to quit..

Because that is the true test of whether they can push through adversity and overcome what they’ve been struggling to overcome

You either give up and stay the same

Or push through even though it’s hard and overcome what’s necessary

It’s like anything worth having in life… it’s tough and you’ve got to be willing and open to change and discomfort to achieve it

Which was exactly why Mark is now in the best shape of his life

All because at them sticking points he didn’t throw the towel in

He pushed through adversity

He didn’t quit when it became harder

He remembered why he was doing this

Because that’s a big anchoring factor you need to look for in tough times

Your why

What’s the reason you do what you do

Well done Mark

Awesome work chief 🙏🏻🤝

Coaches should understand the mechanism and science behind something so you can explain it to clients in terminology that they would understand

This isn’t me being patronising..

A lot of general population clients don’t care about moment arms or lines of force..

They care about you understanding them

And the first part of understanding them is understanding that they don’t care about big posh sciencey words

They just want you to give a f**k about them

Which all starts with building rapport in the correct way from the start 🫡

Simple 🤷🏻‍♂️

Coaches

Please stop doing this

Learn to challenge your client

By you not being confident in your ability as a coach you’re giving a client permission to over consume and get away with it

You’re not learning them anything by tip toeing around them

There is no health condition that stops a calorie deficit

Nobody’s hormones

Or gut issue

Or metabolic issue

Or thyroid issue

Stops fat loss

Consuming too many calories does

So please

Be confident

And learn to challenge your clients when they need you to

Because they will thank you for it eventually

🙏🏻

Yep this is annoying when it happens

And it happens to all of us at times

More socials means less routine

When you stack them on top of each other then it becomes even worse for progress and can mean you sometimes fall backwards

Like I did this summer

It’s part of life at the end of the day

You will have busier and quieter months

The main part is keeping as many habits as you can do on the busier months

And then locking back in when they become quieter

I love routine

And have hated being out of it so much this summer

It’s been mine and Beth’s busiest one!

Which has been hard to navigate

But luckily I’ve got the habits and mindset to flick everything back on and lock back in

That’s what makes the difference

This is what I eat on a daily basis

Food sources vary depending but this is around about what I consume.

I eat very similar meals everyday as it makes my busy life easier

My goal is to perform well whilst maintaining my level of muscle tissue and condition

The condition won’t be an issue… maintain my muscle will be 😂😂 as I lose muscle quite a bit easier than the average person

I have 1-2 meals out per week and I don’t track them. I leave around 1000-1200 calories for these meals but I don’t limit myself when I’m out. I just eat to appetite which is usually 1-2 courses.

I’m now able to maintain my bodyweight on 3700-3900 calories through building 40-50lbs of muscle tissue over the past 8 years

Now it’s time to improve my performance and become some what of an athlete again like in my younger days 🫡
