A training week. Not a holiday with a lesson bolted on.

7–12 March 2027 at La Manga Club, Spain. Five days on every area of your game, with me alongside you.

Two coaching sessions every morning. A strategy session, then 9–18 holes every afternoon. Technique, Skills Games, playing strategy and practice — one connected system, and you learn how to run it on your own game.

You go home with your assessment results, your strategy playbook, your two or three priorities, and a practice plan you built yourself.

5 nights at the 5★ Grand Hyatt, half board. 8 × 1.5-hour coaching sessions. 4 rounds of golf. A Spanish restaurant every evening, transport included. £2,552 per person, flights and transfers separate. Places are limited.

DM me ‘LA MANGA’ and I’ll send you the full itinerary — or read the full page via the link in my bio.

Slicing it? Don't change your swing yet. Change your set-up.

✅ Ball further back in your stance
✅ Lean the shaft toward the target
✅ Square the face first, then take your grip

Three simple changes that build a draw into your set-up before you even swing.

Give it a go at the range this week and let me know how you get on.

Coming across the ball? Check your trail elbow 👇

A high trail elbow at the top can send the club outside on the way down. That’s the classic pull or slice.

The fix, in 2 steps:
1️⃣ Keep your elbows the same distance apart from setup to the top
2️⃣ Let the trail elbow work closer to your body in the downswing

⚠️ Watch the clubface. As the path moves more from the inside, a face left open will push the ball right.

Try it: 10 slow half swings, pausing at the top to check the gap between your elbows. Then 10 at full speed.

Should you be keeping playing stats? 📊

With Matt Fitzpatrick winning the French Open on 20-under, I've been asked this a lot.

My answer: yes — if you want to improve. But don't let it get in the way of your round.

✅ Use an app that tracks automatically in the background
✅ Or fill in a sheet after you play — in the clubhouse, hole by hole

Then compare your numbers against the golfer you want to become. Whether that's scratch, a 5 handicap or breaking 90 for the first time, The Benchmark Sheet shows what that player actually does — so you can see where you're strong and where the shots are going.

How close should you get it from 150 yards?

Here's a simple test for your next range session:
✔ Hit 10 balls from 150 yards
✔ Pace off how far each finishes from the flag
✔ Average the 10
✔ Find your handicap's row in the video

Further away than your number? That's where your shots are going.

My free Benchmark Sheet shows where your numbers should be across your whole game, from 0 to 25 handicap. Link in the first comment 👇

Hitting it heavy out of the rough? The fix might be turning LESS.

The problem: heavy contact, and nothing came out of the rough or poor lies. TrackMan showed a −0.7° attack angle, so the club was arriving almost level.

The cause: 135° of backswing turn. His head drifted right, behind the ball, and it was still there at impact.

The fix (in-person lesson): we cut the turn to 105° and kept his head centred with one simple drill. Keep the ball in the middle of the ring.

The result: −5.1° attack angle, and the low point moved 5.5″ past the ball. Ball first, then turf.

Save this for your next practice session. The drill is on slides 4–5.

Shanking it? Try this.

We see the shank all the time on the lesson tee, and one of the most common reasons is moving towards the golf ball in the downswing.

The fix needs one alignment stick:
1. Push it into the ground on the line of your toes, about knee height
2. Make swings without touching the stick
3. Feel your trail knee move towards your lead knee – turn left, not at the ball

Test it: hit 10 balls and count how many miss the stick.

Low, spinny-free wedge shot in 3 steps 👇

1️⃣ Setup: a little more weight on your lead foot, ball slightly back
2️⃣ Top: shorter swing, don't hit it so hard. Less speed = less spin
3️⃣ Finish: shorter follow-through, hands high

Ball back and weight forward also take loft off the club, so the ball flies lower.

Today’s Golfer readers get my coaching every month. Here’s one of the lessons.

The fault: hitting from the top. The urge to hit hard the moment you reach the top throws the club outside the line, so you lose speed and slice.

Try this from the feature:
→ One alignment stick through your belt loops, another held across your shoulders
→ From the top, start turning the hip stick while the shoulder stick stays back
→ Hips first, shoulders second. That order gives you both the path and the power

That’s how I coach online, built around your game:
- Measure: stats and skills games find what’s costing you shots
- Fix: film your swing and get two videos back, the fault and the fix
- Support: guidance all month as you make the changes

Two titles in five days for David Westwood.

• Senior Scratch Open, Walton Heath: won in a play-off at the first extra hole
• Scratch Knockout, Little Aston: won the 36-hole final

David came to me wanting more distance and better compression. We worked in person, and the key change was his set-up:

→ Ball back
→ Hips towards the lead side
→ More shaft lean, as a result of the first two

A draw-bias set-up that lets him compress the ball.

Try it: film your set-up face-on with your phone, make the two changes, then film again and compare. The full check is on slide 4.

Congratulations, David. Brilliant golf when it mattered.
