A huge congratulations to Captain Leo Nieboer and the 2nd XI who secured the Surrey Cricket Championship Div 11 North Title on Saturday with a resounding victory against Southwark Park CC.

They wobbled briefly, but then a sublime 200-run partnership between Nick Dowell and Chris Butlin, who both scored centuries, set a daunting total, before the bowlers took over and simply demolished the opposition.

All of it watched by countless supporters and the 1st XI who had wrapped up their own match very early and headed over to The Griffin to support.

Needless to say, there was a lengthy shower, multiple jugs and lots of singing late into the night.

Around 50 players represented the 2nd XI this season, a testament to the strength of the Club as a whole and the competition for places. This victory would not have happened without them and all the underlying support within the club - nets, socials, Cheer XI, Selection Committee and all the admin duties. It’s about so much more than just eleven Plough rocking up on the day.

This trophy is for everyone! 🏆

Sunday saw some quite remarkable cricket from one of our Friendly XI’s at Winchmore Hill.

Set a daunting target of 324, after fielding under the scorching North London sun, the lads were cheekily advised to, “go to the bar and call it a draw” by our Club President.

Two lads in particular had other ideas though. Rehan Raees and Van Naidoo take a bow. 👏🏻 👏🏻

Not only did they smash the club record for a 3rd wicket partnership they also set a new record for the highest partnership in Club history. The pair put on a colossal 286* with Rehan hitting 159* and Van 112* to steer us home with overs to spare.

A truly remarkable partnership. Especially, as Van’s day could’ve gone horribly wrong from the start when he managed to lose one of his flip-flops on to some train tracks. Fortunately, the shoe was retrieved and now Van has a new pre-match ritual.

Very well batted, boys. A truly wonderful effort. 🏏 💥

Sunday’s nail-biting win against Larkhall Wanderers CC was tinged with more than a hint of sadness.

Unfortunately, as life takes him in another direction, we had to say goodbye to “Uncle” Nigel Stephenson.

Nige joined us back in 2013, debuting alongside our Club Captain, Liam Gray. He’d come to cricket later in life than most but that didnt matter to us. Here was a throughly decent guy, a little grumpy, a tad laconic, but a heart of gold. He loves a pint. He loves a fag. And he loves this Club.

Our Club is great because of the characters within it. Nigel is most definitely one of them and we’ll all be poorer for his absence.

Off the field, the memories are endless but a certain incident involving a kitbag and the stairs at Lord’s is the stuff of folklore.

Cap number 308. Finished on 163 games, 168 wickets @ 24.89, 264 runs and 24 catches.

As the great man himself once said, “I just try to get it in the right spot and see what happens really.”

Well, Nigel… You found the right spot… and look what happened.

There are milestones… and then there are monuments. Build a statue at The DSG for Stephen Britto.

Sunday saw this Ploughmans CC legend reach the incredible mark of 13,000 career runs. A figure so vast it echoes across seasons, across grounds, across hundreds of teammates and opponents alike. To reach such a milestone is to master not just bowlers but time itself.

Steve joined us back in 2002 and over the years has held several roles on and off the field. To have displayed such dedication to the cause can only be admired and revered.

And he doesn’t show any signs of stopping just yet…

Last week 28 members of the Ploughmans family travelled to Chennai for the wedding of AJ Prasad and Niv.

As you can see, they threw themselves into it wholeheartedly and looked super sharp in their traditional dress.

They all had an amazing time and would like to thank AJ and Niv’s families for being so welcoming and putting on such a super day.

Safe travels home, everyone. And congratulations to AJ and Niv 🤵🏾‍♂️👰🏾 🇮🇳 🥂

A very Happy New Year to all our members, friends and followers.

Some very lucky members of The Plough have spent the Festive Season in Australia. They went with high hopes of seeing England win back The Ashes… and the less said about that the better!

More importantly, they caught up with various guys and girls now back living there but still very much part of our big Plough family. Once a Plough always a Plough. 💙🩵💛

Safe travels home, everyone! 🇦🇺 🦘 🏏 ✈️
