A fantastic belt presentation and training event took place recently in Nottingham.

The Black Belt and Gup belt clinic was held and attended by a record 415 students, receiving direct tuition from Grandmaster Strong and Grandmaster Khan, along with lessons given by masters from around the World.

Twelve students from our club attended the clinic and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, coming away with big smiles on their faces and new skills tried out.

The day started however with a very important moment for two of our students. Joanna Luszczak and Tino Shaw were both presented with the new 1st Dan black belts, after recently passing their tests.
It's always a very special and rememberable day for the student when they are presented their new rank, and this was no different.

And as always, it was an honour for me to tie their new belts around their waists, marking the end of their first main journey in martial arts, and starting a new, much longer journey hopefully onto higher black belt levels.

The 2026 European Masters Clinic was recently held in Nottingham.
It was a fantastic event and opportunity for approximately 65 Masters and 25 candidates to train together over the 4 day camp.

Masters and candidates from the UK, USA, Holland, Sweden, Greece, Norway, South Africa and Costa Rica came together for the clinic, to share training time, ideas, sweat and laughter. New bonds were made and old ones solidified further.

Grandmaster Strong and assistant Grandmaster Khan led the clinic with an amazing number of years of knowledge between them to draw on. Other Masters also gave their time teaching specific training items to the other attendees.

The clinic also included testings for invited attendees to grade for their next ranks, in a physically demanding 2-3 hour test.

I had the honour to be a lead judge on one of the panels, and the effort and attitude shown by the testing Masters on the floor was great to witness.

It was a fantastic few days of training and a privilege to spend time with my WTSDA family.

Playing catch-up on some club awards recently presented.

Students of the Month for July were Daniella Marshall and William Twyneham.

Students of the Month for August were Laila Fraser and Mike Robinson

They all won the award for different reasons such as excellent attitude and effort or technical improvements, along with high levels of attendance.
Congratulations to you all.

Callum Vaghela was awarded the Liz Watson Memorial Trophy for his excellent performance and results in the recent World Championships in Chicago.
This club award goes to the individual who achieved the best results in the most recent competition, and with three 1st places, Callum fully deserves the award.

It’s been been an absolutely fantastic 2026 WTSDA 2026 World Championships in Chicago, USA, for both GBTSDA and also for Ramsey & Upwood TSD.

Amongst 1800 competitors,five club students competed and gave their absolute all on the competition floor. They represented this club and themselves brilliantly, supported by a magnificent GB support team (parents and fellow competitors)to cheer them on relentlessly.

The GB team had a fantastic world championships preparation class yesterday.

Assisted by over a dozen Masters and directed by Grandmaster Khan, the students were put through their paces in order to prepare for our Association’s World Championships in Chicago, USA, happening in a few weeks.

Can’t wait to get across to the U.S and see the action unfold.

Students of the Month for May 2026 were Hydee Pole (Senior grade cup winner) and Julian Patmore (Junior Grade cup winner).

Great effort and attitude shown by both students throughout the month.

The Liz Watson Memorial Cup was recently awarded in class to two students.

This much sought after cup is given to the best performing student at the most recent competition. The British Nationals were held in April in Nottingham and the whole Ramsey & Upwood team performed fantastically.

Top of the pile however were Mikail Ahmed and Rhys Vaghela, who both achieved one 1st place and two 2nd places. This made it impossible to split them for this cup and so it was agreed that they will share the cup for equal time up to the next competition.

Students of the Month for the April period were Andrej Vilic and Laila Fraser.

Both had shown really good attitude and effort throughout the month, and fully deserve this recognition.
