‘THE DEEP PIT’ Quick overnighter paid off with this dark common coming at 20.5lbs. Travelled home from Liverpool from work got home and had itchy feet to get myself off to ‘THE DEEP PIT’ not normally somewhere I’d do an in between work session Infact I had never done a night in between work until last night. Rods went out around 10pm all went down with a solid thump and I knew I was fishing, I seen a few fish jump shortly after getting the rods set quiet abit further out than where i was currently fishing. Middle rod got wound in and sent to the middle the of the lake, bit of food and sleep it was for me. My work alarm went off at 4:45am I had 10 mins to come round and then got on with packing down ready to be picked up at 5:30am, at 5:10am my middle rod let out 2 beeps, the bobbin dropped and then slammed back up against the alarm and I was in. 7 hours with my rods in the water, showed up in the dark and still managed one. What a result! ‘THE PIT POND’ Lovely little mid double mirror. Quick after work session paid nicely, travelled to and from Liverpool for work been out of the house 14 hours and I wasn’t even home 15 minutes, straight to the pond. Photo isn’t the best but that’s part and parcel of solo fishing having to wait for a dog walker to take a picture in the dark😂. ‘THE FORGOTTEN PIT’ The 4th and final fish of my 5 day session, and a close second place to the moon scale mirror I had first. This one came in at 25.12 and came a whole 5 hour earlier than the 2 previous fish, woke up at first light had a cuppa and watch the fog roll over the water, didn’t really see much that morning so decided to get my head back down an hour later I was woken to 2 single beeps which I thought was a liner until my bobbin slammed against my alarm and the fish made a run into open water, this was an immense battle seeing the fish break the water I wasn’t sure on the size because of the fog it slipped the net and I seen it was another good one. Amazing session with some top lads! ‘THE FORGOTTEN PIT’ This is the 3rd fish from my hit on the new pit, really am off to a flying start. This dark mirror came the day after the common but 10 minutes later to the hour it was becoming clear that morning bites seemed to be the norm on here. This one let out a single beep I lifted into it and it headed straight for the snags slowly tightening the clutch I managed to stop the fish and turn it round from here the fish came towards me and felt like a bream this was until it got under my rods tips stripped a good 40 yards of line and we was in for a second battle. ‘THE FORGOTTEN PIT’ This mint looking common weighing 20.5 was the second fish to grace my net over a 5 day period, again this was an early morning bite, fishing right up to snags with a tight clutch 2 single beeps and my rod was bent 45 degrees I lifted into the rod and the fish kited to the right into a bay over my right hand shoulder, waders on chest deep in water to get the angle to get the fish back in my control, when it slipped the net chord I couldn’t believe I was into my second fish on the forgotten pit so soon with all the locals brandishing it as such a hard water! ‘THE FORGOTTEN PIT’ This is why you don’t ignore the funny feelings. After bagging the low double common on ‘The Pit Pond’ and finally been off the mark I had a gut feeling that something special was going to happen on ‘The Forgotten Pit’. Packed up from ‘The Pit Pond’, home for a battery recharge and some food, threw my gear into a taxi and didn’t arrive at the lake until after dark, rods went out around 11pm and I still had that feeling it was only a matter of time before I was off the mark here 2. The night passed quiet with only a few liners to show for my efforts, until at 10am my receiver let out 2 beeps I flew out my bivvy to find my left hand rod bent 90 degrees about to be ripped from the buzz bars. No time for waders so in i went fully clothed as soon as i lifted into the fish I knew it wasn’t no baby. After a 10 minute battle with the beast zipping up and down the deep margins trying to take me into every snag in sight I finally netted my most meaningful prize yet. My first fish from the new venue ‘The Forgotten Pit’ and and absolutely Beauty at that. I was sure it was another Yorkshire 30 to add to my captures but she tipped the scales at a respectful 28.6, not a PB but by far my favourite capture to date. A mega dark scaley Yorkshire banger! Still mind blown.
