Gameweek 4 -
Today we welcomed Neville Hill AFC over to Pontefract park coming off the back of a gruelling defeat last week to Hemsworth, Welfare we’re looking to make amends. With early morning drop outs and manager Jack away on holiday; Cj took charge. It’s becoming a norm that welfare start sluggish as we once again found ourselves 1-0 down early on with Neville Hill scoring off a set piece that wasn’t dealt with enough, but this bought welfare to life, spirits were lifted and Wakey came into the game and dominated plenty of the first half after the early goal when cane 1-1, captain Alex standing over a free kick on the halfway line (despite Cj telling him not to take it and to leave it for Harry, the quickest get fu**ed I’ve ever received in my life) Alex fired into the top left corner with the keeper unable to do anything about it. 5 minutes pass and with debutant Alex Lane causing problems up front, he spotted the keeper off his line and unleashed a rocket from 35 yards out which unfortunately rattled the crossbar - would of been a debut to remember

Half time 1-1

Then came the second half and welfare started well again having early chances, then came the abandonment, centre back fired into a 50/50 with Neville Hills winger and despite him not realising and trying to stand up, he stood up, tried to place pressure on it, turned to Alex and went “Ow, Alex it’s broken “ 🤣unfortunately he has suffered a double leg break from the challenge and we wish him the best and speediest recovery 💙🩷

*MID SEASON FRIENDLY*

Today Welfare took on a Graziers Reserve side that showed fight and spirit until the final minute giving everything to the Welfare boys but Welfare ran away convincing winners in the end!

Welfare started well creating chance after chance through the attacking 3 of Jamie Batty Will smith and Eddie Morton but struggled to find the back of the net, in a half which Wakeys defence was hardly even tested. Welfare eventually found the back of the net when Jamie set the ball for top scorer Damien Little to find his 3rd goal in as many games with a calm finish into the corner of the net,
Second half started and Graziers had there only reall attempt on goal and beating Kailum to level it at 1-1.
Welfare found a second gear after this and scored 3 unanswered goals, first coming from captain Alex Giles beating men on the edge of the box and playing the ball to Jamie Batty and scoring his first goal of the season, welfare then made it 3-1 when debutant Adam Crossley stole the ball off his man and played a through ball splitting the defence to gift Eddie his first goal in a welfare shirt, 5 minutes later welfare scored again when a quick throw in was taken to Damien who split the defence to Lewis and Lewis slotted away to make it 4-1 and game over.

Massive shout out to Graziers FC for the game and best of luck for the season lads

Sunday 14th September
Wakefield Welfare 2 - 4 Peacock FC

Nothing much to say about this one, Welfare started the strongest racing into a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes through another long range free kick that flew in off the crossbar from Damien and Alex Turner stealing the ball on the halfway line and driving forward before firing in a peach of a low driven shot from 30 yards out into the bottom corner

Then came half time and unfortunate for Welfare they were unable to hold onto the lead as Peacock FC scored 4 unanswered goals and ran away victorious.

Man of the match went to centre back Ryan Giles who had a strong performance at the back despite the result!

All the best for the season the lads at Peacock and cheers for coming back for a drink after!

Week off this weekend but we go again the weekend after

Match Report

A frustrating first game back of the league with some of the players not being able to get into the match today… After a battle in the first 30 Welfare managed to start a lead into the game with a strike from Damien, a few minutes before the half time whistle blew united fought back leaving it 1-1 by half time.

2nd half of the game Welfare became sloppy and a few subs made from dewsbury made a stronger, less tiring side for them to dominate the second half. Some impressive saves from our keeper Kailum kept welfare in the game and left dewsbury at 2-1. An impressive run down the left wing from our midfielder Damien which assisted our second goal by Alex Giles straight past the keeper made it a 2-2 with 8 minutes to go before full time. After some more battling from both sides united made an impressive strike to the right corner leaving it at a 3-2 finish as the final whistle blew.

MOTM; Kailum for some impressive saves and keeping welfare in the game!!!

Onto next week with hopefully a better attitude to the game!
