Its with great regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Alison Varley, wife of one time and and long time Thornes legend Matt Varley. Alison had bravely battled cancer for 5 years and leaves two young daughters.
Matt grew up playing his cricket at Thornes and was part of the legendary Thornes team that won the first Yorkshire Premier League play off final in Abu Dhabi in 2016.
In order to help support Matt and his family through this difficult time we are staging a fundraising and family day at the club this Sunday 7th June. This will include a cricket match featuring many more Thornes legends of yesteryear.
Full details are included in the attached poster.
We are particularly grateful to all those who've assisted with this event - particularly one time Yorkshire player and now Somerset player Josh Shaw who played with Matt for many years at Thornes.
Josh has kindly donated a signed Somerset shirt as a raffle prize

Results from Gameweek 4!

The 1’s continue their form on the road, beating Sprotbrough by 80 runs on Saturday. After a decent start, a slight wobble left some runs to be scored. Monty and Matty shared a great partnership through the middle to leave us 227ao.

With weather looming, the first 20 overs put real pressure on Sprotbrough. Charlie and Matty bowled well up top, before Wiz, Luke and Brad operated well through the remaining overs, leaving Sprotbrough well short after their full 50.

The 2’s managed a full 50 in the field before the rain intervened, with Billy and Abdullah being the pick of our bowling.

On Sunday, the 1’s started their Heavy Wollen campaign with a similarly convincing win against Pudsey Congs. Batting first, a 180 run stand between Jawad and James set Thornes up for a strong total. With late runs from Waqar and Brad seeing us past 300. In reply, Congs started strongly, before Luke and Wiz once again helped to contain. As the rate kept climbing, Brad came into effect, picking 4 up to leave Congs 86 runs short in the dark, and advancing us into the next round of the cup.

Weeks 4 Teamsheets!

The 1s are back on the road again as they head to newly promoted Sprotbrough. After a convincing win last week, the lads are looking to make it 3 in a row in their league campaign.

The 2s host Aston Hall at Field Lane. Looking to bounce back from last weeks defeat, they go with youth over experience, bringing Fawad in, in place of the evergreen Steve Batty.

On Sunday, the 1s are on again as they look to reclaim their big sheep cup from 2024. The first round game against Congs starts at 1pm on Sunday down at field lane.

Thanks for all sponsors, let’s have a day!

Results from the bank holiday.

1s go back to back by beating Tickhill on the road. An 80-run opening stand between James and the old boy Safi set up proceedings, before a middle order wobble left some catching up to do. Brad and Wiz’s 64 run partnership helped us to 218 from the 50. In reply, Tickhill never really got going on a spinning track. A couple of early wickets set the game up for Luke and Wiz to rip through the middle order. Brad got one to round off a match winning performance, before rabbit feeder Taylor came back on to close the game out.

Despite Thornes’ first hundred of the season, courtesy of Jamie off 123 balls, and a helping 68 from Jonny, the 2s were beaten comfortably by Millhouses. Billy once again taking the bowling plaudits, with outstanding figures in the second dig.

The Sunday XI fell victim to the rain on Sunday, rounding up the weekends results.
