No contracts, no fuss — just real karate. First session is free. Members of NAKMAS & WYSOK. Newmillerdam Karate Club was founded in 1968 by Don Snaith, a student of Tatsuo Suzuki. Ann Walker joined his class in 1972 and went on to lead the club for three decades, becoming one of very few women ever awarded 7th Dan. Her son Shane is chief instructor today and her grandson George teaches here too. We teach traditional Wado Ryu karate to children and adults, in the same hall, on the same two nights a week. Several of our instructors are also qualified in ju jitsu, kickboxing and Okinawan weaponry, so we mix things up from time to time. We are not a franchise and we are not a chain. Nobody here is on a sales target. There are no contracts and no direct debits — you pay for the sessions you train, and if you can't make it, you don't pay. We run the club because we love it and because we want to pass on what we have been taught. Families run deep here. It is not unusual for a former member to walk back through the door with their own children, or their grandchildren.
