Josh Laker - Fleets Dam Wakefield AC

Great to see another of our juniors fishing the Wakefield AC matches….😁

After a disastrous start by braking his rod Josh only had 1 option which was to fish pole at 12m on hard pellets on the deck and up in the water to put a fantastic 38lb 14oz in the net for midway, great result for first time adult match and not far behind both coaches 🎣🐟😁

Looking forward to seeing Josh on more matches to come.

Preston Wakefield Juniors🎣

The latest league match was held at Walkers Dam and was fished in bright, hot sunny conditions. After a very slow start the fish started to wake up and a few started being caught along the whole bank.

Showing the boys how to do it was Amelia Storey on peg 10 with a net of 23-9. Two good Ide and two Roach early on and then a quiet spell for a good hour. Switching between two lines at 12m she started catching some nice Bream and Ide on maggot and worm baits, sometimes even a cocktail, catching one, feeding then rotating. Had it not been for a lost Carp her weight could have been much bigger👏

Second from peg13 was Joshua Laker with 21-5. He landed some decent Skimmers and an Ide throughout the match but it was a 12lb Carp caught on the pole with light elastic that made all the difference.

Third was Aren Capewell from peg9 with 17-14. Four decent Bream with one at 5-2 and two good Ide all caugh on pole and worm at 11m rotating between two lines just past the track line. Two lost Carp and hook pulls on two big Ide proving costly.

In the Cadets it was a two horse race. Just pinching it from peg3 with 13-12 was Isla Storey. Isla has fished at 13m all day switching lines taking Bream and Ide at intervals on worm or maggots over groundbait.

One fish behind from peg5 was Alfie Wain Angling with 10-4. Alfie has fished to the island for the first half of the match taking a couple of small Ide and a Brown Goldfish. His move into open water for the last two hours secured three nice Bream and another Goldfish on worms and maggots fishing 11m.

Well done everyone 🎣

We’ve had some of our juniors out at Walkers Dam today preparing for next weeks match.

Our plan was to fish 11 / 12m on pellet / expanders and another line with caster / Groundbait feeding through a cad-pot and rotating between lines looking for bites. It took a little over an hour before the first to be caught and they followed it up with some fantastic tench, bream, IDE and a lovely perch 💪

We done you all, it’s been a great day for learning and some catty practice Joshua Laker 😂 and we can’t wait for the league match next Saturday 🎣🐟😁
