☕ VETERANS CAFÉ – COME ALONG FOR A BREW & A CHAT! ☕

Are you a veteran living in or around Wakefield?

We're restarting our Veterans Café at Disability Sport Yorkshire, and we'd love to welcome you along. 💚

Whether you've recently left the Armed Forces or you've been a veteran for many years, this is a relaxed, informal space to meet other veterans, have a cuppa, have a chat and spend some time with people who understand the military community.

There's no pressure, no agenda and no need to have a reason for coming — just pop in, grab a brew and see who's there. ☕🙂

It's also a chance to find out more about what's happening locally, meet people involved in the veteran community and, if you want it, get connected with other organisations and opportunities.

💚 YOU SAID, WE LISTENED! 💚

We’ve been listening to feedback from families about our Deaf Youth Club, and we’ve made a few changes to make the sessions easier and more accessible for young people and their parents/carers. 🥰

We know that getting children to a session straight after school can be difficult — especially when you’re trying to manage school pick-ups, travel and dinner — so we’ve changed our session time and will now be providing food/snacks during the session to make things that little bit easier. 🥪🍕

The club is a welcoming space for deaf and hard-of-hearing young people, as well as young people who use sign language as a form of communication, including non-speaking young people who may use signing. We have BSL interpreter support available, helping everyone feel included and able to communicate. 🤟💚

Our sessions aren't just about sport either! Young people can get involved in:
⚽ Fun sports and activities
🎨 Arts, crafts & creative activities
🎲 Games and board games
🤝 Team building and social activities
🍕 Food and time to make friends
💬 Life skills and confidence-building activities

We want the club to be somewhere young people can **be themselves, make friends, try new things and have fun in a supportive environment. 💚

🥊💚 DEAF YOUTH BOXING CLUB IS BACK! 💚🥊

We’re excited to announce the return of our Deaf Youth Boxing Club at Disability Sport Yorkshire! 🙌

Designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing young people aged 9–16, the sessions are a chance to:

🥊 Learn boxing skills
💪 Get active and build confidence
🤝 Meet other deaf young people
😊 Have fun in a supportive environment
🗣️ Communicate and socialise in an inclusive setting

Whether you're completely new to boxing or already have some experience, everyone is welcome!

📅 Every Monday - Starting 7th of September

No previous boxing experience needed!

♿ Wakefield Trinity Wheelchair star Jack Johnson alongside friends and family will each be taking on 50 laps of Denhale Activity Centre on Thursday 2nd July!

🙌 The 50 lap-challenge comes as this year marks Jack's Dad's 50th birthday, who has tragically passed away, with all money raised through the fundraiser supporting our purchase of new Wheelchairs to support Wakefield Trinity Wheelchair!

💖 Confidence changes everything. 💖

We’re proud to support She Defends, a 5-week programme designed to help women and girls (11+) build confidence, learn practical self-defence skills, set healthy boundaries, and connect with a supportive community.

During major football tournaments, reports show that domestic abuse incidents can increase, making it more important than ever to create safe spaces where women and girls feel empowered, heard, and supported.

Together, we can help build stronger, safer communities.

💜 She Defends... Because Confidence Changes Everything 💜

Behind every statistic is a person. A daughter. A sister. A friend. A neighbour.

During major football tournaments, domestic abuse incidents can rise. While communities come together to celebrate, many women and girls face increased fear, isolation, and harm.

That's why She Defends exists.

This 5-week programme offers more than self-defence skills. It provides a safe, supportive space where women and girls aged 11+ can build confidence, strengthen their voices, learn practical techniques, and connect with others who understand the importance of feeling safe and empowered.

Confidence is not just about defending yourself physically. It's about knowing your worth, trusting your instincts, setting boundaries, and believing you deserve to feel safe wherever you are.
