We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Stephen Clarke, a highly respected international dressage judge, trainer and educator, and a longstanding friend of Frank Baines. Throughout his lifetime, Stephen made an extraordinary contribution to the sport, helping countless riders, trainers and officials better understand the principles of correct training and horsemanship.
His influence will continue to be felt across the dressage community for many years to come.
Our sincere condolences go to Stephen's family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

🤔Too short? Too long? Or just right?
Finding your ideal stirrup length should be based on your body and your physical ability, not tradition, trends or what someone else’s stirrups look like.
👀 Look at all the lines on the Core top and Align Jods - don’t just look at the stirrup length!
One of the biggest myths in the equestrian world is that longer stirrups automatically create a better position.
In reality, longer stirrups increase the physical demands placed on the rider. As stirrups get longer, less weight is supported through the feet and more is supported through the seat. The leg becomes a longer lever, the stirrup provides less support, and the rider needs greater balance, stability and pelvic control to maintain their position.
That’s why some riders actually improve when their stirrups are shortened by a hole or two.
This is one of the reasons I love my custom-made dressage saddle from (not just the pink parts, honest 😉). It allows me to adjust stirrup length and knee block position to suit the rider’s body, rather than forcing the rider to fit the saddle. Offering different shaped/size blocks, like they do, is the way forward for dressage saddles 💪.
Too often riders choose knee blocks based on appearance or trends. Knee blocks should suit your mobility, flexibility, leg length and physical ability - not the latest fashion.
The saddle should support the rider.
The rider shouldn’t have to contort themselves to fit the saddle.
Which length suits this rider best - 1, 2 or 3? 👇

We are so lucky to have Garry Baines from Frank Baines Saddlery making sure all our horses have fitted saddles 🥰 Last one in, 8 year old PRE mare “Bellisima” just had a stunning brand new saddle delivered for her. Send us a PM for info on her (and her saddle 😉) ℹ️

🏇Happy to have just got this full range of knee blocks from - and honestly… this is something more riders need awareness of.
There isn’t one “correct” knee block for everyone. Different shapes and sizes change how your leg sits, moves, and stabilises.
Even with the same body, riding ability changes what you need. Less experienced riders often benefit from less, not more, support to avoid bracing, while more experienced riders may suit more defined support for finer control. Bigger blocks don’t automatically mean better - they have to match you.
Your saddle shouldn’t force a position, it should support what your body can achieve. Small changes like this can make a big difference to how a rider feels and moves 👌
So happy to have these in my rider physio sessions to help riders understand how knee blocks can help, not hinder them.
