What a brilliant Ladies team we have at Grove RFC this year.

As we launch Girls Rugby at Grove, it’s so exciting to think about what the pathway could look like for these girls over the next few years.

We’re lucky enough to train before our Ladies on Wednesdays, which means our girls get to see senior women’s rugby up close - and our Ladies get to see some of the players who we hope will be joining them on the pitch in years to come.

That’s what we’re building: a pathway from girls rugby at Grove all the way through to our Ladies team.

For the girls playing today, the future is right there in front of them. And that’s pretty special.

We’re incredibly proud to be working with the wonderful Bucks Girls Rugby Charity this season as we launch our own U12 Girls Rugby team at Grove RFC.

We’re fortunate to have built a squad of girls ready to take the next step together, but we know that isn’t the reality for every club.

At grassroots level, getting enough girls of the same age together to form a team week in week out can be a real challenge.

The work Bucks Girls Rugby Charity does to bring clubs and players together has been instrumental helping girls and clubs across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire get more games, more time on the pitch and more experience playing rugby - while making sure they have the opportunity to keep developing, making friends and enjoying the game.

We’re really pleased to be part of that this season and to play our part in the continued growth of girls’ rugby across the region.

We can’t wait to see our U12s get started with our first Pitch up and Play at Abbey RFC - Reading Abbey Rugby Club, and we’re looking forward to seeing all the other teams and girls we’ll be sharing the season with.

More girls. More rugby. More opportunities to play. And we’d love your daughter to be part of it.

Here’s to a great season 💙❤️

A NEW CHAPTER FOR GIRLS RUGBY AT GROVE

This Sunday, our U12 girls took to the pitch together as a team for the very first time. ❤️💙

We welcomed back returning players, as well as new girls who had never played rugby before but wanted to come along and be part of this new team.

With coaches Alec, Sam and Dean making the most of the sunshine, there was running, smiling and plenty of rugby on display.

It was brilliant to see the girls getting to know each other, playing together and taking their first steps as an all-girls team.

We can’t wait to see where these girls go this year. 💙❤️

And if your daughter would like to be part of it, new players are always welcome and no previous rugby experience is necessary.

GIRLS RUGBY RETURNS THIS SUNDAY AT Grove RFC

This Sunday, our girls take to the pitch for the first time as an all-girls U12 team.

It marks the start of an exciting new chapter for them, and a new phase of girls’ rugby at Grove RFC.

From playing together, learning together and building as a team, this is the beginning of their journey as U12s.

And what better way to start than with our Open Day?

Grab a friend, bring her along and let’s get started ❤️💙

Every orchestra needs a conductor. Every team needs a coach.

So, as we get to know the girls of Grove RFC U12, it’s only right that we introduce the person helping bring it all together…

**Meet Alec Richardson - U12 Girls Head Coach.**

Alec has been coaching for five years, and his approach is pretty simple: hard work, intensity, discipline, civility - and making sure everyone has their place.

His sporting hero? Maud Muir.

His pre-training ritual? Cones out, desperately searching for the whistle, then attempting to get everyone into a line so he can count them.

His interests away from rugby? D&D, heavy metal and neolithic stones.

And his one-word description on the pitch?

**LOUD.**

Most importantly, Alec believes there is a place in rugby for everybody.

> “If you haven't fit in anywhere else we've got a you-shaped space.”

That's the kind of coach we think every girls' team deserves.

Come and meet Alec and the rest of the girls at our Rugby Open Day, 6th September.

Maisie has been playing rugby for 10 months and is looking forward to getting to know her new teammates.

Quick-fire Maisie:
Favourite part of rugby?
Running down the wing.

Best thing about playing at Grove?
“I know a lot of people.”

Rugby heroes?
Henry Po***ck because he has character.
Ellie Kildunne because she’s a good team player.
And Jodie Ounsley because she’s very inspiring - both because they are from a town near where Maisie was born.

One word that describes you on the pitch?
Quiet.

Pre-game ritual?
Sort my hair out and drink water.

What does Maisie do when she’s not playing rugby?
Play football - as well as netball, swimming, football and skiing.

What is she looking forward to most?
Getting to know her new teammates.

And her message to other girls:
“Even if you are shy, give it a go as it’s a lot of fun at Grove Rugby Club and you’re never alone.”

Meet Clarke, Grove U12 Girls Player

Clarke has been playing rugby for 4 years and, when asked what she wants to be when she grows up, her answer was simply:
“Too many options.”
And with swimming, athletics, a completed first triathlon and dance already on the list, it’s easy to see why.

Quick-fire Clarke:
Favourite part of rugby?
Tackling.

Best thing about playing at Grove?
The team.

Rugby hero?
Ellie Kildunne - “she's a great player for her team, scoring tries and tackling.”

One word that describes you on the pitch?
Monstrous.

Pre-game ritual?
Listen to really loud music.

What is she looking forward to most?
More tackling - although she’ll miss playing with the boys.

Her message to other girls thinking about rugby:
“Don’t be afraid, it’s not that bad.”

Want to meet the rest of the team? Come and see us September 6th at our open day.

Meet Esmée - Future Zoologist, and Grove RFC U12 Girls Player..

Esmée has been playing rugby for 4 years and is looking forward to being part of a girls-only team this season and making new friends.

Quick-fire Esmée:
Favourite part of rugby?
Spending time with my friends and having fun (and tackling!)

Best thing about playing at Grove?
Everyone is friendly and inviting.

Rugby hero?
Ellie Kildunne - she’s tiny like me and she gets stuck in.

One word that describes you on the pitch?
Resilient.

Pre-game ritual?
I always eat sushi before a festival.

And when she’s not playing rugby?
Playing Roblox, drawing and reading comics - and she also playing darts at a local club.

What is she looking forward to most?
Being in a girls-only team and making new friends.

Her message to other girls thinking about trying rugby:
“It’s fun and it actually doesn’t hurt. Rugby can be played by anyone.”

Ahead of our Open Day, we want to get to know the Grove U12 Girls

Over the next few days, we’re going behind the scenes with the girls of Grove RFC

Who’s the biggest tackler?
Who listens to loud music before a game?
Who has too many options for what they want to be when they grow up?
Who eats sushi before a festival?
And who didn’t even realise they’d scored a try? 👀

We’ve asked the girls about rugby, their heroes, life away from the pitch, their teammates, their pre-game rituals and what they’re looking forward to this season.

And we’ll be introducing the coach who has the rather important job of keeping them all pointed in roughly the same direction… (Once he's found his whistle)

Meet the team starts tomorrow!

First up: Esmée....

💙Every girl deserves a team where she belongs ❤️

The best teams don’t just build players.

They build confidence, friendships and memories.

At Grove RFC, we’re creating something special for girls aged 10-12 (Years 6 & 7) - a place where friendships come first, confidence grows, and every girl is welcomed, whatever her experience or ability.

You don’t need to have played rugby before.

You just need to bring a smile and give it a try.

If you’re looking for a positive, supportive environment where your daughter can make friends, build confidence and enjoy being active, we’d love to welcome you to the Grove Rugby family.

Join us from September 6th, starting with a free open day at 10:00 at Grove RFC, Recreation Lane, OX12 0FL

With chances to play throughout the season alongside the Bucks Girls Rugby Charity teams.
