After reviewing the weather forecast on MWIS yesterday I decided on a solo trip up the Yr Wyddfa Rangers path today. The winds weren’t as bad as predicted. Lost of fresh snow on the path, knee to thigh deep in places so spent some time searching for a decent route up. Cloud covered the route up to the summit so out came the map and compass walking on a bearing and pacing the route out. For once I had the summit all to myself. What an absolutely incredible day

This week I have had the great pleasure of instructing on a military adventurous training week in the beautiful Eryri national park. It is always great fun working with groups that are always keen to learn new skills and inspiring future outdoors enthusiasts.

Back in October I attended an Alpine Klettersteig Leaders course in Bavaria. It’s was a really amazing and challenging week. The weather was good all week

This last weekend I was working in North Wales with a group from The Royal Yeomanry. The plan for the day was to go up on to the Glyder but after seeing the weather forecast I decided to do a low level walk with them where we looked at pacings, measuring distances on the map, identifying features and bearings. The group really enjoyed the day.

This weekend I’ve been supervising a Silver Duke of Edinburgh in the Clwydians for Challenge Expeditions. All the participants did really well. The weather was absolutely perfect all weekend.

So I had plans to go to the Lake District this weekend but after looking at the weather forecast I opted for Snowdonia. The route for today was Snowdon via Watkins path. On the way up I had the pleasure of meeting and walking to the summit with Sally and Magda who had travelled up from Swindon. This was there first time up Snowdon. The return journey was down along the Rhyd-Ddu path before heading east back to the car park at Plas Gwynant.

I think a trip to the Lake District might be on the cards for this weekend’s outing

Yesterday I decided to head over to Ogwen Valley for 2 days. Yesterdays route was a short one, headed up to Cwm Bochlwyd and then up to Bwlch Tryfan. From there I went along Heather Terrace then back down via Milestone Buttress.
Todays route, was up Pen yr Ole Wen, over to Carnedd Dafydd, followed the track along Cefn Ysgolion Duon over to Carnedd Llewelyn then back down past Ffymnon Llugwy reservoir. Plenty of snow up on the. Carnedd’s today. Cloud cover was low with visibility down to around 10 metres in places. Plenty of map and compass work needed
