The client dinner isn't what wrecks a travel week. The 6 hours before it is.

Airport food after a long meeting.

Hotel breakfast that starts as coffee and turns into a second plate.

Lounge grazing between connections.

None of it felt like it needed a strategy.

Then the dinner with the wine list goes fine, and the week still ends softer than it should.

Not because he failed the one meal he planned for.

Because the unmarked days never got defaults.

I wrote a free article that breaks down why travel weeks erase progress when only the big dinner gets a plan, and what to install for the unmarked hours instead: https://www.helenparkerfitness.com/blog/client-dinners-arent-the-problem-the-unmarked-days-around-them-are

R.I.P. 75 Hard as a body composition strategy for men over 45 who actually run real companies.

My client is 47. A founder. Told me before working with me that he did two challenges last year. Lost weight both times.
Gained it back both times, plus another "I was so disciplined" story.

Challenge culture sells intensity.
Permanent systems sell continuity.

The problem is not that 75 Hard is hard.
His life is not a 75-day container.

Deals slip.
Travel lands.
Client dinners appear.

A plan that only works when the diary is empty is not a plan.
It is a temporary personality.

What works for my CEO clients is boring on purpose: progressive strength, protein they can hit in a hotel on a Tuesday, walking that needs no hype video, and a review cadence that survives a bad week without a full restart.

If fitness only works in challenge mode, you do not have a system.
You have a binge.

My 52-year-old founder client used to spend weeks on investor day. How he'd look on stage was still "soon."

Slides locked. Numbers tight. Suit chosen. Sleep protected the night before.

Ask him about the keynote photo in eight weeks and you'd get "I'll tighten up before then."

He prepared for the business moment like a professional.

He prepared for the body moment like an amateur with a calendar fantasy.

Orangetheory. Whoop. Home gym. He already trained.

The board pack got a date. The fundraise got a date.

The body got hope.

Then the date arrived, the shirt was still tight, and he felt it before anyone said a word.

Now the body gets the same lead time as investor day.

Strength sessions that survive travel weeks. Food rules that assume dinners exist. A weekly readout so he's not flying blind until the week before the event.

Two weeks of restriction before a conference can move the scale.

It rarely changes composition in a way that survives the next travel block.

High performers love a deadline.

Using the deadline as the strategy is why they keep starting over.

I wrote a free article on why "I'll tighten up closer to the time" isn't a plan, and what it looks like when you give the body the same lead time you already give investor day:

He built a company that survives Dubai, London and New York in one month. His body falls apart every trip.

Same man who built systems so the business doesn't need him in every room.

Lands, skips training for "just this week," eats hotel default, sleeps four hours, then stares at a Whoop that looks like a crime scene.

He professionalized the company years ago.

His body still runs on hope and airport food.

Four hours of sleep and a five hour time difference spike cortisol before you've even ordered coffee.

Skip training and your body has no reason to hold onto muscle on a trip where you're already eating in a calorie surplus.

Add hotel breakfast buffets and minibar decisions made at midnight, and one trip can undo three weeks of consistency.

The executives who stay lean through travel don't have more willpower in Terminal 3.

They have a default plan for hotels, dinners, and time zones before the wheels go up.

Same resistance training split, just shorter.

A protein target that travels with them.

No decisions made at 30,000 feet.

One client used to lose progress every trip.

Now he lands in the same shape he left in, because the plan already existed before he packed.

If the company survives travel and the body doesn't, the gap isn't discipline.

It's the missing system.

Every Monday my 54-year-old CEO client opens a board pack: cash, pipeline, headcount, risks.

But when I asked him his average daily protein, average step count for the week or how many true strength sessions he hit last month he wasn't sure.

He manages the company by numbers.
He managed his body by vibes and "I've been pretty good."

That works until 45.
Then recovery drops, travel ramps, sleep shrinks, and vibes stop being a strategy.

The fix isn't another challenge. It's the same operating rhythm he already trusts: a simple weekly readout, a phased plan, and a review cadence that doesn't depend on motivation.

You wouldn't fly your company blind.
Stop flying your body blind and expecting the same results you put into business.

He’s 51. Founder. Pays specialists for tax, legal, branding, and the business without blinking. Yet the shirt still pulls wrong when he walks into the rooms that matter...

Orangetheory. Whoop. Huberman. A home gym most trainers would kill for. He trains. He is informed. He is still running all of it without a strategy.

That is not a discipline problem.
It is the only high-stakes problem he keeps insisting he can solve alone.

I wrote a free article on why capable men stay stuck while already training hard, and what changes when they stop collecting protocols and install one plan that survives dinners and travel:

"I'll start properly after" I've heard this end more transformations than injury, travel & bad genetics combined. There's always a reason to wait.

Summer plans. A vacation coming up. Work is busy right now. The kids finish school soon. There's a wedding in September.

The calendar is never empty.

If you wait for the perfect window, you will wait forever.

Because the perfect window does not exist for men with full lives.

What I've noticed about the men who actually transform is they don't start when everything is calm.

They start in the middle of the chaos.

Because they understand something most people do not.

Starting does not mean being perfect. Starting means building the system while life continues around you.

The first two weeks are never going to be flawless. The travel will still happen. The dinners will still happen. The late nights will still happen.

The difference is that you now have a structure to navigate them instead of being at their mercy.

If you wait, two things will happen.

One, you will be four months older with the same body.
Two, there will be a new reason to wait.

The best time to start was six months ago.

The second best time is while your life is messy, imperfect, and exactly the way it will always be.

Every founder I coach has the same routine. Peloton at 5am, protein shake, back to back meetings. Still can't lose the last 15 lbs.

Then they hit 45, testosterone already fighting an uphill battle, and that cardio session is quietly making it worse.

I'm 44 myself, and everything I coach is exactly what I do to stay in the shape I'm in at this age.

Here's what nobody tells high performers about steady state cardio after 40.

It's a stress signal to your body, not a fat loss tool.

You're already running on 5 hours of sleep and back to back calls. Add an hour on the bike and your cortisol doesn't come down, it stacks.

Chronically elevated cortisol does three things that wreck the exact result you're chasing. It breaks down muscle tissue for fuel. It blunts testosterone production.

It makes your body hold onto fat around the midsection, because as far as your nervous system's concerned, you're under threat and threat means store energy, not burn it.

So the guy doing 5am cardio and eating "clean" stays stuck, while the guy lifting heavy and walking 10,000 steps drops fat and finally sees muscle definition he hasn't had in a decade.

This isn't a hot take. It's basic endocrinology that the fitness industry doesn't want to talk about because "cardio more" is easier to sell than "understand your hormones."

Resistance training preserves and builds the muscle that drives your metabolism.

Walking manages stress without adding to it. That combination is what actually changes your body composition after 40, not more cardio.

If you're still doing 5am cardio sessions and wondering why nothing's changing, this is why.

I asked five of my clients what surprised them most about their first month working with me. They all said the same things...

"I couldn't believe how much I was supposed to eat."

"I thought I would be exhausted. I have more energy than I have had in years."

"The workouts are shorter than what I was doing on my own."

"I stopped craving sugar by week two. That has never happened before."

"My wife noticed before I did."

Every one of these men came in expecting punishment. Expecting restriction. Expecting to suffer for four months to earn a result.

That is what the fitness industry has taught them.

No pain, no gain. Earn your food. Push harder.

The reality is the opposite.

They ate more food. They trained less frequently. They slept better. They had more energy for the things that actually matter.

The hardest part of the first month is not the physical challenge.

It is trusting a process that looks nothing like what you expected.

30/08/2026

He never accepted "good enough" in the boardroom. Then he brought that same energy to his body and it backfired completely because...

Every missed workout felt like a failure. Every "off" meal felt like weakness.

He was tracking macros like KPIs and still losing.

Here's what he didn't understand yet. The mindset that built his business was the exact thing sabotaging his physique.

In business, more effort usually means more output. Push harder, work longer, get more done.

The body doesn't work like that.

Push harder without recovery and you break down muscle faster than you build it. Chase perfection with food and you set up a binge cycle that undoes a week of discipline in one night.

Treat training like another task to grind through and your nervous system stays stuck in fight or flight, which is exactly where fat loss stalls out.

The turning point wasn't a better plan. It was unlearning the belief that suffering equals progress.

We rebuilt his approach around three things:

Resistance training four times a week, not six.
Daily walking instead of punishing cardio sessions.
Food flexible enough that a dinner out didn't feel like failure.

Six months in he's down 32 lbs, off two medications, and for the first time in years he's not white knuckling his way through a diet.

The businesses that scale aren't the ones running at 100 percent all the time. Neither are the bodies that transform.

Sometimes the smartest move a CEO can make is doing less, better.
