Lazy Sunday? Nah!

A morning meet up at Roseberry Topping car park and a rather quick hike up to the top followed.
607ft climb from car park to top, and the boys reached the top in under 25 minutes!
After a quick climb, we took the more scenic route down.
Chocolate cakes / sweets all round courtesy of Marc a fine reward for a great effort.

Game week one.
First game against Roseberry Park Hawks.

It was a 2-0 loss but still a good performance overall.
It was a game where it felt like we had the majority of the chances but failed to put them away, whereas the opposition didn’t have a great deal of action in front of goal but buried their chances well, both good finishes.

Great to have everyone back for our first weekend.

A first game in the Wildcats for Arthur, and a debut for Myles, and both boys played very well.

With a gap for one week in fixtures, this is a good chance to get some work in at training.

Jack takes POTM in our first game. When the team was losing its shape Jack was doing really well at stepping in. Good tackles, blocks, and tracking back. Set the team away with several good thru balls, that on another day those chances would have ended up in the net. 🏆

Washington Wildcats 5(Div 9) Chester Sonics 4 (Div 4).

Fantastic achievement for the boys.
It’s a friendly match, but it’s one they always look forward to, knowing they are playing up.
We started off against this team just under a year ago, being beaten by double digits, ending the match with two extra players on.
Fast forward to now and the development is there to see.

Good passing setting up good chances.
Players taking on players but then releasing the ball, and players doing the ugly side of play that is just as important. Following the runners so the defenders aren’t outnumbered.
Good distribution from the goalkeeper.
Fantastic team performance.
Myles played brilliantly and was awarded POTM, but it was a close call because they were all fantastic.

Thank you and well done to the opponents. Our night tonight but there’s a reason we are always so keen to play them, it’s because they are a very good team and good to learn from.

We had a debutant in Myles playing in goal for the first time.

With Arthur on his hols Lewis captained the team tonight.

The team played well and had some fine moments, especially early on with some good passing taking place in the opponents half.
Myles went through spells with little to do, but was great when called into action. The sign of a good goalkeeper is being able to maintain that level of concentration and effort throughout a game, and Myles was very good.
All of the outfield players rolled on and off with one spare player/ sub, with players playing alongside different players and in different positions just to try out new things.
James was great. Looked solid when defending, and enjoyed playing further forward than he is used to as well. Unlucky not to get too many chances in front of goal himself, but smashed the best penalty in the shootout at the end.
Faith played well and had some brilliant moments when she was able to go shoulder to shoulder with a player. After last weeks drills of pushing Jack out of the square, it was put to good use.
HG played well, scored three goals but it was some of the battling to win the ball which was most impressive from him.
Ollie hasn’t played a great deal of football and no matches for a long time, but had a good first game back, there was some lovely moments when receiving the ball in the opponents half Ollie making a run or trying to take a player on. Scored a goal and well deserved.
Lewis didn’t stop running all game. The effort was top, whether it was winning the ball, wanting to receive the ball or trying to head towards goal. Scored a goal and won POTM for his efforts.

5-1 win for the game.
We had a penalty shootout at the end for fun and lost the shootout.
