🔴🟡 AN OPEN LETTER TO THE OLD SALTS FAMILY 🟡🔴
It’s difficult to put the last nine months into a few words.
When I took on the Director of Rugby role just before Christmas, I knew there was work to do. What followed was probably bigger than any of us expected.
A relegation play-off.
A last-kick win at Newark.
A change in coaching team.
Seven first-team players moving on.
A rebuild that had to start almost immediately.
But sometimes the toughest moments give you the opportunity to do things differently.
Since that afternoon at Newark, an incredible amount of work has gone on behind the scenes at Old Salts.
A new coaching structure.
Two first teams — Level 6 and Level 10.
18 new players.
New sponsors and partners.
A clear pathway for players.
Fantastic pre-season numbers.
More than 81,000 Instagram views in the last 30 days.
And, most importantly, a real sense of momentum around the club.
Tomorrow, all that work finally turns into rugby.
The Renegades travel to Sutton Coldfield, while our First Team welcomes Hinckley II to Old Salts.
And this isn’t just about the men’s section.
Our Women’s team, Mini & Youth sections, volunteers, coaches, sponsors, supporters and everyone working behind the scenes are all part of what we’re trying to build.
Different teams. Different challenges. One club.
I wanted to write this letter because before the first whistle blows, it’s important to recognise just how many people have helped get us to this point.
To every player who has committed.
To every coach who has given their time.
To every sponsor who has backed us.
To every volunteer who has helped.
And to everyone who continues to turn up and support Old Salts…
Thank you.
Tomorrow we start the next chapter.
So let’s fill the club.
Let’s make some noise.
Let’s get behind both teams.
And whatever happens over the coming months, let’s make sure we do it together.
