Young stars shine at Waterlooville Sports Bar

It's been another exciting week for our junior snooker and pool players, with unbeaten performances, a national tour debut and some closely contested league battles as the season approaches its finale.

🎱 Junior Snooker – Jesse begins title defence in style

Twelve-year-old Jesse Goncalves made an unbeaten start to the defence of his Monday Junior Snooker League title.

Jesse also celebrated a successful debut on the English Under-16 Tour in Dereham, Norfolk, on Saturday, securing his first match victory at national level.

Back at the club, Jesse rounded off his session with a friendly game of pool against Max Button, while Alfie Wyatt tested his skills on Bronze Level 7 of the Cuestars Academy.

We also welcomed Bobby and Tommy Barton, who joined our junior pool section this week!

🏆 Junior Pool – Ryan takes the lead into the final week

The Thursday Junior Pool League is heading for an exciting finish, with Ryan Collins producing an unbeaten performance in the top group to extend his lead over Ashton Cobb to 2.5 points.

With neither player having previously won the Division 1 title, everything is still to play for heading into the final week.

Olly Clarke finished runner-up in the top group, moving up to fifth place in the standings.

In the second group, Jake Kneller claimed maximum points ahead of Max Button. Aaron Cook remains at the top of Division 2, holding a 5.5-point advantage over Jake.

🌟 Hope shows what junior sport is all about

"It doesn't matter if I win or lose, I just enjoy playing."

Those were the wonderful words of eight-year-old Hope Williams, who joined our Thursday Junior Pool League just last month.

Hope has already climbed to third place in Division 3, proving that enthusiasm, enjoyment and determination are just as important as the results.

It's fantastic to see our younger players developing their skills, making friends and growing in confidence every week.

Another cracking night of pool at Waterlooville Sports Bar!

After a couple of months away from the Underdogs, Wayne returned in some style! He steamrolled his way through the competition, playing excellent pool all night before completing the job with an impressive 3–0 victory in the final.

FOURTH TITLE FOR JESSE AS JUNIORS BATTLE FOR LEAGUE HONOURS

JESSE Goncalves celebrated his fourth Monday Junior Snooker League title as another 20-week competition came to a close at Waterlooville Sports Bar.

The 12-year-old signed off in style, going undefeated in the final round-robin group and producing the highest break of the day with an impressive 38.

It completes another successful league campaign for the youngster, who will now turn his attention to a new challenge on the national stage.

Jesse travels to Dereham, Norfolk, this weekend to make his debut on the English Under-16 Tour.

Everyone at Waterlooville Sports Bar wishes him the very best of luck.

A new 20-week Junior Snooker League begins on Monday, while siblings Kaizer, Taitum and Tyne Harden were among the latest youngsters to get involved after enjoying their introductory pool sessions.

COLLINS TAKES THE LEAD

There was also a major change at the top of the Thursday Junior Pool League as Ryan Collins finally displaced long-time Division 1 leader Ashton Cobb.

But with just half a point separating the pair and only two weeks remaining, the title race is far from over.

Alfie Wyatt won this week's top group ahead of Ryan, who must now defend his slender advantage during the final fortnight.

Max Button continued his excellent run of form by winning the second group for the second successive week, earning the traditional honour of packing away the balls.

Division 2 leader Aaron Cook finished runner-up.

Players are now locked into their respective divisions for the final two weeks of the competition.

HAMPSHIRE DUTY

Five Waterlooville Sports Bar juniors were also in county action last weekend.

Keira Jackson, Ryan Collins, Sam Beasley, Aaron Cook and Elliot Page represented the Hampshire Pool Association Youth team in their away fixture against Sussex at the Castle Club in Brighton.

Hampshire were beaten 23-13, but the match provided more valuable county-level competitive experience for the young players.

WPBSA coach Tim Dunkley runs the junior programme at Waterlooville Sports Bar, with under-19 snooker sessions from 4.30pm-6.30pm every Monday and junior pool sessions and leagues on Mondays and Thursdays.
