We had our presentation night on Saturday evening. A great turn out to celebrate our first teams promotion and league winning ladies team. We had lots of awards to give, including:

We had a fantastic day on Sunday celebrating the cricket careers of Bob Burgess and Pip Patch!

We started the day with a Presidents vs Captain T20 a great display of cricket performed with the Presidents team coming out on top.

Then the main event started with Bobs team vs Pips, we had players old and young and saw some class cricket. It was a close game with Bob’s team coming out on top by 2 runs!

We also unveiled our new signs which will stay at the club forever, The Robert Burgess end and The Philip Patch end.

A great day celebrating two legendary men!

Our first team have been promoted!

After 10 victories this season we have ended in second place and been promoted back up to Somerset Prem!

A fantastic performance from all the boys this season 🏏🎉

The rain came down on Saturday and ended both our games in rain affected draws, we did manage to get some cricket in though!

The first team travelled to Weston, after winning the toss they were fielding first. The game started well for Wedmore with Sam Tucker (Jon Tucker) getting his first wicket on his third ball. The wickets kept coming for tucker getting another in the third over and two more in the 10th, getting 4/11. We had two wickets taken by both Steve Andrews (The Children’s Practice) and Billy Halford (The Whiteheads) and a wicket taken by Reuben Lewis-Jones. We bowled Weston out for 170 runs in the 34th over.

We then came to bat but unfortunately the rain came down hard and we had to stop in the 7th over where we were 31/1 and the game was a rain affected draws.

It was a delayed start for the twos who were playing Uphill Castle at home. After loosing the toss we were batting first, we tried our best on a very wet wicket! Ending on 129/ all out after 28 overs. Some great batting from Ally Cave 30 and Ian Monson (Penny Burgess) 18.

We then came to bowl, we have some impressive performances from Josh Frost (The Maguires) 4/7, Ian Monson (Penny Burgess) 2/16 and Alfie Lavender (Phil & Jo Halford) 1/23. Unfortunelty the rain stopped the game early with uphill castle on 76/7 after 18 overs

Last game of the season is here!

The first team travel to Weston starting at 1pm.

The twos host Uphill Castle starting at 1:30pm.

Hopefully the rain stays away for our last Saturday for the boys 🏏🍺

Wedmore 1st team were home to long Sutton on Saturday. On a damp pitch Wedmore were inserted in to bat as long Suttons skipper won the toss.

Long Sutton started really well restricting Wedmore to 54/4. With some really good opening spells from Jack Vigar and Louie Glew picking up all 4 wickets. This meant captain Sam Tucker (Jon Tucker) and Matt Drew had to start the rebuild with some cautious batting and eventually got Wedmore to 106-5 before Matt Drew fell to a great catch at slip by long suttons captain off another left arm bowler. Wedmore then tried to rebuild again before losing Steve Andrews (The Children’s Practice) at the score of 139-6 after a few massive 6s. From there on Wedmore tried to take the attack to long Sutton upping the run rate before captain Sam tucker lost his wicket on 70 letting wicket keeper Alistair Garnsworthy (The Chocolate Society) make his 50 and keep the scoreboard ticking over wedmores tail wagged to get Wedmore to a competitive score of 240 all out.

Wedmore then started the bowling innings with 2 wicket falling to Sam tucker for no runs, before long suttons opener took the attack to wedmores bowlers with some impressive hitting and a range of unorthodox shots scoring at a real quick rate. When Charlie Vigar finally fell for 69 with the score at 111-5 Wedmore thought they were well on top before a few slip ups in the field gave the momentum back to long Sutton with Jo Martin scoring a run a ball, 56 along side with skipper James cook scoring a unbeaten 34 to see there side home finally chasing the score on 242 for 8. Claiming there top spot and rightful league winners.

Wedmore go again next week with 14 points required against Weston to seal promotion back to the prem.

The twos traveled to Lympsham for their game, they were bowling first. It didn’t get off to a great start with Wedmore falling 35/5 we then managed to get a bit of momentum with Josh Frost (The Maguires) hitting 43 off 21 balls, and Ian Monson (Penny Burgess) hitting 56 off 28 not out. Unfortunately though the rest of the wickets fell and we were bowled out for 166 runs in the 30th over.

Wedmore then came to bowl, it got off ti a strong start with Alfie Lavender (Phil & Jo Halford) getting his first wicket in the 3rd over, he then followed that up with 4 more wickets getting 5/56. Unfortunately Lympsham batted strong and chased us down in the 19th over.

Bank Holiday Sunday Sorted 🍺☀️

Next Sunday we have our Patch vs Burgess testimonial game! We have a presidents vs captains game at 11am and the Patch vs Burgess game at 3pm.

We have a corker of a bank holiday Sunday for you!

On Sunday 30th August we are hosting a Burgess vs Patch testimonial game as a thank you for their incredible service to Wedmore CC over the years!

At 11am there will be a Presidents vs Captains T20 which will see some our current players go head to head. Then at 3pm comes the main event. Bobs team will go up against Patchy’s team to see who come out on top!

We would like to invite any old players to come and play in this game, send us a message if you are interested! There’s also a free cricket tea in it for you!

All of ours sponsors are also invited with your first drink on us as a thank you!
