Welcome to the Nottingham Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society
We are part of a network with branches all over the world enjoying the wonderful social activity of Scottish Country Dancing. We use the same dances and the same great music whether it is in Australia, North America, Europe or even Japan!
Scottish Country Dancing is a really good way of keeping fit whilst having fun and is an excellent way of making new friends. It’s not only good for the cardiovascular system, but it keeps bones healthy and it certainly keeps the mind active too!
Scottish dancing comprises Reels and Jigs which are fast dances, and Strathspeys which are slower and have their own unique steps. There are hundreds and hundreds of dances, and no-one could possibly know them all!
We learn the steps and basic building blocks of formations which make up the dances, and once you know these, you can dance any dance! The music of course is wonderful.
Unlike many other forms of dancing, dancers don’t need to come with a partner as we always change partners every dance, so it is ideal for people who want to dance but don’t have anyone to come with. We are a friendly group of people of all ages and you can be assured of a warm welcome. Please explore our website to find out more.
