A huge thank you to the Scottish Children's Lottery Trust and Jackpot Community Trust for their grant award to SOEC.

With this valuable contribution to our work we are looking to expand our activity offering for the young people who come to our centres. Did somebody say "mountain bikes"? 🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♂️

Last week our Centre Managers attended a bespoke 2.5 day First Aid at Work Requalification course hosted by Medicrec Outdoor First Aid Specialist, in North Yorkshire. All the particpants were Rescue Emergency Care https://recfirstaid.net/ first aid trainers so an emphasis of the course was on peer to peer mentoring and the sharing of good practice. It was a very productive few days that have developed our abilities as a first aid provider. Get in touch with us if you are looking for a 16hr Outdoor First Aid or EFAW course in Scotland.

We are honoured to announce that HRH the Duke of Edinburgh has become Royal Patron of the charity.

On 1 July, His Royal Highness visited Belmont Outdoor Education Centre where The Duke met young people from Meigle Primary School participating in outdoor learning.

We were also delighted to host Mr Stephen Leckie, Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, Miss Alexandra Cairncross, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, Mr Xander McDade, Provost Perth and Kinross Council, Mr Thomas Glen, Chief Executive of Perth and Kinross Council. Attending from SOEC’s Board were Gavin Calder (Chair) and Harry Lukas. Jamie Miller (SOEC Chief Executive) and Jonny Channon (Manager, Belmont) were pleased to lead the SOEC staff team in welcoming all our guests to this special day.

If you are out shopping at Tesco's in Penicuik between now and the end of March, please consider dropping a blue token into the Scottish Outdoor Education Centres section of the Community Grants vote. We have supported a number of local schools and community youth groups to attend Broomlee using our bursary schemes, and grants like this will help us to continue doing that in the future. Just a small glimpse into our Holiday Club fun at SOEC Dounans and SOEC Belmont this Summer. The young people have been busy laughing, learning, and taking on new challenges.

📸 We’ve only captured a few moments throughout the summer, most of the time we were too busy making sure they were having the best time! Loads of skills gained, memories made, and confidence boosted.
