The nights might be getting darker earlier, but our Wednesday night Summer Series ended on a high! Congratulations to father-and-son duo Doug and Rory who came out tops over both the senior and youth series - with another father-and-son duo Rob and George in third!

With over 70 club members including 10 youth sailors getting out on the water and scoring this series, it’s clearly a favourite for members with fine competition, and community spirit.

We certainly squeezed every last drop out of the season with a couple of bonus "twilight" fixtures over the last fortnight. What next? It’s time to dig out the thermals and gear up for some Autumn competition with both the ILCA and Topper Island Barn Open events this September.

The Island Barn youth ILCA sailors travelled to Aarhus, Denmark, to compete at the ILCA Youth World Championships. Harry and Sam made their international ILCA debut sailing in the ILCA 4, while Leo, Isla, and Lucas raced in the ILCA 6 fleet. All delivered impressive performances against some of the world’s best young sailors. Congratulations to Isla for qualifying into the girls’ gold fleet and to Leo for finishing 42nd in the boys’ championships in a fleet of over 300 competitors.

What a week for Island Barn Sailing Club at the 2026 International Topper World Championships in France.

Huge congratulations to Isy Simpson, who is now the Topper 4.2 Female World Champion!

A big shout‑out as well to Leander, who secured a fantastic 1st place in the 5.3 Silver fleet — another superb performance.

Well done to all IB Juniors for competing in a demanding week of racing in a very competitive international fleet, not only was it a week of exceptional skill, focus and resilience for everyone but everybody had a great time too - from the opening ceremony through to the fun party evening, it was a time to make friends from all across the world!

The National Institute Du Nautisme, Société des Régates St Pierre Quiberon, and ITCA World put on a fantastic event. Big thanks to all the volunteers.

Congratulations to Island Barn’s Chris Balding on the award of an RYA Impact Award in recognition of over a decade of outstanding service to junior sailing at IBRSC.
As a Race Coach and Dinghy Instructor, Chris has inspired and developed young sailors, from beginners taking to the water for the first time to national-level competitors. Chris helped establish the club's highly successful Topper Racing Skills programme, played a key role in achieving RYA Pathway Club recognition, and has coached club and regional teams at both Topper and Mirror National Championships.
Along with others at Island Barn, he has worked to mentor and develop the next generation of young instructors and coaches, ensuring the continued success and growth of junior sailing at IBRSC. Well done - and thank you - Chris!
