Well... this is getting a bit real now... 😬😂
So apparently I'm actually doing this...
Firstly, sorry for being a bit quiet on here lately. If you've wondered where I've disappeared to, life has been a little hectic behind the scenes! Between selling the house, organising a move to the other side of the world and trying to keep on top of everything else, social media has definitely taken a back seat.
The next 2 weeks are officially my last working weeks before Holly's Hub closes its doors.
As most of you know, I'm not originally from the North.
At 21, Nic and I packed up our lives and moved up North. I started at Virgin Active, and after our first two children were born, I took the leap and created Holly's Hub.
After all these years, it's safe to say I've spent a large part of my adult life telling people to straighten their legs, stop holding their breath, convincing you that "this definitely isn't a push-up"... and promising there was "just one more exercise left" (which somehow always had subsections A–Z 🤣).
To every single one of you who's walked through my door over the years... THANK YOU!
From the Virgin Active days, to Bodytorq, and then to my home gym where Holly's Hub finally had a physical home, I honestly can't explain how much you've all impacted my life. ❤️
Whether you came for a massage, Pilates, personal training, or simply because it was cheaper than therapy and came with a side of sarcasm 😜... thank you. You've all made Holly's Hub what it became.
And I'm truly sorry I never did get you the merchandise! 🤣
A massive thank you to those who've been with me since the very beginning. I've literally watched your children grow up, become taller than us all, start school and leave school.
I still can't count, my music choices have always been questionable 😜, and somehow... you all kept coming back!
When I started Holly's Hub, I never imagined it would become what it has.
What started as PT sessions and Pilates classes somehow became this little community that has been such a huge part of my life for over 15 years.
I'll miss walking into every class and session thinking, "How is this one going to go?" 🤣
New instructors will probably plan their classes perfectly, with all the best exercises, perfect technique and programming... forgetting that there are real, raw people walking through the door. I was always happy to welcome whichever version of you turned up that day.
I honestly think that's what made me the best instructor I could become—learning everyone's individual personalities and knowing how, and when, to push you... right up until the "f* off" stage. 🤣
The sarcastic comments, the sessions that became group therapy without anyone realising, the happy tears, the sad tears, the angry tears, and the tears from laughing so hard you nearly peed your pants... they were all part of it.
There are honestly so many moments I wish I'd recorded over the years. The things that have come out of your mouths, the absolute chaos we've somehow ended up in, and the amount of times I've laughed so hard I've genuinely had to stop the class because I couldn't carry on. Those are the moments I'll remember most.
The laughs were always louder than the groans... well... most of the time. 😂
The lines between clients and friends have definitely become blurred. Whether it's normal to be friends with someone you hate for most of the session and can't wait to leave... I don't know. But it's a pretty special kind of friendship. 🤣
People often tell me I've helped them over the years, but honestly, you've helped me just as much. You've given me a career I've genuinely loved, and I know how lucky I am to be able to say that.
I also don't think many of you realise the commitment you've made over the years to yourselves and your bodies. Some of you have shown up week after week, year after year. Through busy jobs, raising children, injuries, life's ups and downs, and every excuse imaginable (yes, even the genuine ones! 😂), you still kept turning up.
That's something to be genuinely proud of.
Thank you for trusting me, for recommending me to your friends and family, for bringing people along who were nervous to walk through the door, and for always making them feel welcome. So many friendships started because one of you simply showed up that day.
If I'm honest, another instructor would be incredibly lucky to have you. Yes, you'll probably swear at them, try to negotiate your way out of the last set, make someone take one for the team while everyone else becomes the cheerleader, but you'll also make them laugh every week, support each other, welcome every new face, and create the kind of atmosphere every instructor hopes for.
I love a good reflection, and I don't think you truly see something for what it is until you step away from it. This has no doubt been my experience over the last few weeks.
I might have been the trainer or teacher, but my classes and sessions became what they were because of every single one of you... even if that sounds far too soft for me. 🤣
Thank you for every early morning (god knows how I managed those for so long 😜), every evening class, every coffee afterwards, every bit of encouragement, every recommendation, every sarcastic comment, every swear word aimed in my direction, every swear word that stayed in your head but was written all over your face, every ridiculous excuse, and every laugh that left me thinking, "F* it... they win." 🤣
You've given me memories I'll never forget.
I'm beyond excited for this next chapter in Sydney, but leaving all of you is without doubt one of the hardest parts.
So here's to the final two weeks.
Love you all.
Holly ❤️
P.S. If anyone asks, you were all model clients who never complained, never swore at me, and definitely never tried to negotiate your way out of anything... 😉😂
P.P.S. I do still need to find someone to take over the Pilates classes, so if anyone knows an instructor with a very thick skin, a good sense of humour, and the ability to ignore a room full of people trying to bargain their way out of exercise... send them my way. I think they'll fit in just fine! 😅
